As a preventative measure to ensure peace and security, Local Government Chairmen in Ikorodu Division, traditional leaders, youth bodies, and other stakeholders engaged with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Fakayode Adegoke, to sensitize the community against unlawful protests and riots.
The event, held at the Ikorodu Town Hall, was aimed at discouraging violence among young people and encouraging positive engagement.
CP Adegoke advised youths to shun cultism and violence, instead focusing on developing their skills and potentials.
He assured protection for peaceful protests, emphasizing the importance of non-violent expression. “The youth in Nigeria are very creative and innovative,” he said. “I encourage you to go on peaceful protests, and we will provide full protection as long as it is not harmful.”
Builder Olusesan Daini, Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA and anchor of the event, encouraged young people in Ikorodu Division to stay calm and synergize with the government to find solutions to develop the economy instead of agitating for protests.
He cited the Endsars protest, which turned violent, as an example of the dangers of unrest. “Let us work together to build a better future for ourselves and our children,” he urged.
Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, thanked the Commissioner for his presence and assured the community of impending development projects. He urged residents to remain calm and discouraged protests, promising a permanent site for market women and traders. “We are working on a new market square in Ikorodu Division,” he revealed. “Let us be patient and work together for the progress of our community.”
Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali, the traditional ruler of Igbogbo, urged young people to stay out of protests, saying, “Let us work together to build a better future for ourselves and our children.”
Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, Member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), implored everyone to remain calm and shun protests in Ikorodu Division, emphasizing the importance of peace and development.
