In a show of solidarity, stakeholders from various groups in Ibeju Lekki, including traditional rulers, market women, artisans, civil society groups, youth bodies, students, ethnic nationalities, religious leaders, and security agencies, gathered to issue a joint statement rejecting the planned nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10, 2024.

Addressing the stakeholders, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Executive Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, appealed to protesters to abandon their plans and trust the Federal Government’s efforts to address economic challenges. He emphasized that the government has plans to cushion the impact of economic difficulties and urged citizens to have confidence in the administration.

Hon. Olowa highlighted the progress made by President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration since 2023, noting that despite initial challenges, policies and programs are being implemented to bring relief to citizens. He also showcased the local government’s achievements in social services, education, environmental sustainability, health, infrastructure, and more.

The stakeholders present commended Hon. Olowa’s accomplishments and pledged to promote peace and security in the local government. They dissociated themselves from the planned protest and assured their readiness to engage community members and protect their heritage.
