The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, held a media briefing on July 22, 2024, to commemorate the administration’s third anniversary in office. The event saw the presence of various stakeholders, including the Vice Chairman, members of the Legislative Arm, Council Manager, Management team, Supervisors, technocrats, community leaders, and Members of the press.

In his address, Ogunlewe highlighted the council’s achievements in infrastructure development, citing the completion of 30 road construction projects across the seven wards of the local government. Some of the projects include Road Construction of Abioye street, Road Construction of Alade Street, Road Construction of Atiba Osborne Street, Road Construction of Odugbesan Avenue, and many others.

Ogunlewe revealed that 10 boreholes were commissioned earlier in the day at various locations, including Eyiaro Orioke Street, Ogudu (Ward G), Round About Market, Ifako (Ward C), Soluyi Ayodele Okeowo Street, Ifako (Ward C), and others.

He also showcased the council’s efforts in providing structures for social and administrative purposes. This includes the Construction of Customary Court, Construction of NULGE Building, General Renovation of Council Secretariat Buildings, Perimeter Fencing of Council Secretariat, Laying of Council Chapel Slabs, and Electrification of Council Secretariat.

In education, the council has distributed 200 GCE Forms annually since 2021 and 200 JAMB Forms annually since 2021. They have also provided 4 Weeks Free Tutorial Classes for GCE Form Beneficiaries and JAMB Form Beneficiaries, implemented Adult Literacy Advocacy Programme, organized Annual Spelling Bee Competition, and constructed 1 story Block of Classrooms at Mosafejo Primary School.

In healthcare, the council has constructed Oworo Primary Health Centre (PHC), purchased Ambulances, provided Free Consultations and Free Drugs for Staff, conducted Mini Health Mission/Free Eye Glasses for Residents, provided Monthly Fueling of PHCs, conducted Quarterly Deworming Exercise, and conducted Quarterly Polio Vaccination.

The council has also prioritized environmental sustainability through Desilting of major Canals and Drains, Provision of Waste Bins to various communities, and Participation in the year 2024 Tree Planting Exercise. Additionally, the council has established a food bank to support vulnerable residents, providing staple food items to those in need.

Ogunlewe also announced the provision of utility vehicles for official use, including the Purchase of Kosofe Legislator’s Bus, Purchase of Office of Executive Chairman’s Fleets of Buses, Purchase of NULGE Bus, Purchase of Market Women and Men Bus, Purchase of Press Crew Bus, Purchase of Official Vehicles for Political Office Holders, Purchase of Kosofe Revenue Buses, Purchase of Shuttle Buses for residents and School Children, Purchase of Security Bikes, Purchase of Dispatch Bikes, and Presentation of SUV’s to 3 Royal Fathers in Kosofe LG.

Ogunlewe expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support and contributions to the council’s achievements. He acknowledged the role of royal fathers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders in providing moral and spiritual backing. He also commended the press for their coverage of the council’s activities.

Responding to the press men, the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, recently addressed members of the press, highlighting the council’s achievements and future plans. In his remarks, Ogunlewe emphasized the council’s efforts in security, elderly care, healthcare, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and education.

Ogunlewe highlighted the council’s monthly peace and security meetings, which have been instrumental in reducing cultism in the area. He stated, “Before I came in, for those of you that are very conversant with Ojota, Ogudu, Ifako, and Oworo axis, say that when I’ve been here for three years, the issue of cultism has reduced drastically.” The council has also supported security personnel with bikes and monthly stipends for fueling.

On the Elderly ones the council has implemented a monthly elderly program, providing stipends and foodstuff to over 1000 residents.

The chairman addressed the issue of cholera, stating that the council has organized seminars, tested water sources, and locked up contaminated boreholes. He also announced plans to set up solar panels to power boreholes, ensuring a 24-hour water supply. Ogunlewe emphasized the council’s commitment to providing safe drinking water and preventing the spread of cholera.

Ogunlewe highlighted the council’s infrastructure projects, including the construction of 33 roads and plans to construct 11 more. He emphasized the importance of taxpayers’ money in funding these projects, stating, “It’s taxpayers’ money working, and as I always say, if you look at the boards where you have the number of weeks or number of months to take them to construct or reconstruct or rehabilitate the roads, it’s clearly written there.” The chairman also announced plans to declare a state of emergency on local Government roads and school rehabilitation.

The Chairman discussed the council’s efforts in youth empowerment, including employing 400 youths and providing skills training in soap making, shoe making, and other areas. He also highlighted the council’s education initiatives, including the construction of a 10-classroom school and plans to rehabilitate 18 primary schools. Ogunlewe emphasized the importance of engaging youths in Governance and providing them with skills training.

Ogunlewe mentioned the council’s palliative measures, including food distribution and free shuttles for residents. He also emphasized the council’s plans to upgrade health centers to provide free medical care. The chairman announced the launch of “Kosofe Care,” an initiative providing 6000 uniforms to pupils and employing 35 tailors to sew them.

In his concluding remarks, Ogunlewe emphasized the importance of collaboration and sacrifice in achieving the council’s goals. He stated, “It takes a lot of sacrifice, it takes a lot of commitments, and it takes a lot of workload for you to be able to give back to the society.” The chairman’s remarks demonstrated the council’s commitment to improving the lives of Kosofe residents.
