Colloquium featured a rich exchange of ideas among distinguished guest speakers, panelists, and a diverse audience, also witnessed the historic launching of the Standing Order, a significant milestone for the Administration.

Senator Idiat Adebule, representing Lagos West Senatorial District, represented by Hon. Rasaq Ajala, Executive Chairman of Odiolowo Ojuwoye LCDA.

The Summit serves as homecoming for Ajala, who expressed his joy at returning to the school as a representative of Senator Adebule, affectionately known as “Mama West”.

In his speech, Ajala emphasized the importance of providing functional education to youths, stating that any politician who mistreats youths cannot build relevance in their constituency. He highlighted the significance of youth development, citing the demographic makeup of the country, where youths form a large population. Ajala noted that students are the thinking force behind the youth, and providing them with functional education is crucial for the nation’s progress.

Ajala praised the Awolowo administration’s initiative to provide universal free education, which has had a lasting positive impact on the South West region. He drew parallels with the current administration, stating that the APC government is committed to providing qualitative and functional education. He cited the recent disbursement of student loans by the President Tinubu-led administration as a testament to this commitment.

Ajala concluded by emphasizing the need for collective effort to change humanity for the better. He drew parallels with President Tinubu’s achievements during his tenure as Lagos State Governor, stating that it took time for the positive impact of his policies to be felt.

Ajala assured the audience that the current administration is working towards a better future for all, and that they have the right to change humanity for the better.

Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, delivered a keynote speech on the topic “Ethical Leadership and Integrity in Public Service”. The commissioner highlighted the importance of leadership, integrity, public service, culture, and accountability, emphasizing three key words: transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

In his speech, He stated, “This morning on my way here, I did something a little bit different. By going through the normal routine of the students, I boarded Korope and Marwa. All this is to know how our students and youths are going through to come to school on a daily basis.”

The commissioner reiterated the need for leaders to connect with the people they serve, saying, “I’m not just standing as your commissioner, I’m standing as your brother, your friend, and someone who can relate to you.” He emphasized that his role is not just to sit in an office, but to be actively engaged with the youths, understanding their challenges and working towards solutions.

Ogunlende emphasized the significance of ethical leadership, stating that it is essential to create a culture of accountability that drives progress and responds to the needs of citizens and youths in governance. He encouraged the audience to take away the three key words – transparency, accountability, and professionalism – and apply them in their daily lives.

Opeyemi Eniola, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor Sanwo-Olu on Basic and Secondary Education, emphasized the importance of preserving Lagos State’s heritage and infrastructure during the panel session. He urged attendees to protect key structures and landmarks that hold significant historical value to the state.

Eniola expressed pride in highlighting the achievements of the Governor, particularly in education and technology. He noted that under the Governor’s leadership, significant investments have been made in the educational system, resulting in improved infrastructure and quality of education for students. Additionally, the Governor has championed the use of technology to enhance service delivery and promote economic growth in the state.

As a former student leader, Eniola reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing quality education and promoting technological advancement in Lagos State. He encouraged students to take advantage of available opportunities and contribute positively to the state’s growth and development.

Earlier, while giving the keynote address, the Convener, Rt. Hon. Hassan Haleemah, She expressed her gratitude to God and humanity for the opportunity to convene the colloquium. Haleemah emphasized the importance of collective commitment to democratic Governance, accountability, and the well-being of the nation.

She welcomed esteemed dignitaries, acknowledging their leadership and contributions to the nation’s growth, and expressed appreciation for the expertise of speakers and panelists. The Convener also thanked participants for being part of the important conversation, wishing for a future filled with enriching exchanges, inspiring ideas, and a renewed sense of purpose.

She acknowledged the support of sponsors, donors, supporters, mentors, and the school management, as well as her parents, siblings, and organizations that have stood with her throughout her ambition. The colloquium aims to chart a course for a better future, with a focus on democratic governance, accountability, and the well-being of the nation. With the theme “Illuminating the Future”.
