As the world marks the International Day of the African Child, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, extended her felicitations to Nigerian children and all children across Africa.
In a statement, Senator Tinubu highlighted the significance of this year’s theme, “Education for All Children in Africa: The Time is Now,” emphasizing the urgent need to ensure every child has access to quality education. She stressed that qualitative education cannot be achieved without a healthy reading culture, and therefore, every child must have access to books.
To improve reading culture, Senator Tinubu advocated for well-stocked and accessible libraries everywhere. She also encouraged schools to prioritize reading as a daily activity, integrating it into the curriculum of our educational system.
Furthermore, the First Lady encouraged the strengthening of book clubs across the nation, describing them as a wonderful opportunity for children to come together, share stories, and discuss ideas. She emphasized that the time is now to make reading a cornerstone of our children’s education.
In conclusion, Senator Tinubu wished all Nigerian children a happy International Day of the African Child, praying that God blesses them and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
