Oba Adeboruwa Estate FC emerged the winner of the Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA 2024 Chairman’s  cup 2024 Competition, taking home the grand prize of #500,000 (Five hundred thousand naira only).

Ayegbami FC came close as the first runner-up, winning #300,000 (Three hundred thousand naira only), while Igbe FC secured the second runner-up position with a prize of #200,000 (Two hundred thousand naira only). Oliwo Amoju FC took the third runner-up spot, winning #100,000 (One hundred thousand naira only).

Other outstanding players of the tournament were also recognized and rewarded with prizes courtesy of other sponsors in partnership with the LCDA.

Earlier in the day a novelty match was played between Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA and iCare Foundation which Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA won by 2-0.

The Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Builder Olusesan Daini, expressed his satisfaction and gratitude to the youth and elderly residents of the community for their support and participation at the concluded Chairman’s Cup tournament.

He further stated that the LCDA provided cash prizes to the teams and outstanding players, while individuals, industries, and organizations within the LCDA also donated to the tournament. He encouraged the players and youths to continue promoting their talents and supporting upcoming ones to reach greater heights.

Builder Daini also revealed that some soccer scouts were present at the tournament and had already identified talented players to join Nigerian leagues.

He added that three players from the competition are currently playing in Europe, with one in Belgium and another in Ukraine, who had returned home to participate in the Chairman’s Cup.

In his remarks, Builder Deola Banjo Chairman Ikorodu North LCDA described the initiative as “a lofty idea” and “a nice football competition” that showcased the outstanding performance of the players, some of whom have played for national and international teams.

He commended the Chairman for bringing the youths together through the competition, stating that it is a commendable initiative that promotes unity and talent development among the youth in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA.

According to Alhaji Sulaimon, “This is fantastic football competition, if this can happen in every local government and LCDA, we’ll be able to tap the genuity of talents from the grassroots, because this is all about grassroots and that is what we’ve been clamouring for, because sport is about bounding and it’s was able to achieve that aim.”

Princess Basirat Adetutu Banjoko, Deputy Leader of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, commended the Chairman’s Cup tournament initiated by Builder Olusesan Daini, describing it as a “wonderful initiative” that brought people together and provided a platform for social interaction.

In her remarks, Princess Banjoko highlighted the tournament’s impact on the community, stating that it successfully engaged the youths and reduced social menace during the period of the competition. She noted that the competition created a safe and harmonious environment, where people felt comfortable and secure, with “no fear of being harassed whatsoever”.
