Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende, Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, has proudly announced a commitment to the development of e-sports as part of the broader strategy to diversify the creative economy and foster new opportunities for youth prosperity.
Following the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development’s participation in this year’s Paris e-Games Week and the recent Lagos e-Games Week, Hon. Ogunlende engaged with critical stakeholders from the Lagos gaming community yesterday, Tuesday, 11th of June, 2024. The discussion centred on strategies to enhance the e-sports sector, particularly in gaming, which holds immense potential for Lagos youth.
“E-sports offers a unique opportunity beyond traditional sports like football, basketball, and tennis,” said Hon. Ogunlende. “We recognize the exceptional talent and potential of our youth in this rapidly growing field.”
This initiative is more than just an economic diversification effort; according to Ogunlende, it is a testament to the Lagos State Government’s unwavering commitment to leaving no one behind. Every young person in Lagos deserves the chance to thrive in their chosen domain, and the State Government’s interest in e-sports reflects this inclusive vision.
“Together, we are paving the way for a vibrant and inclusive future in the world of e-sports. By investing in this sector, we aim to create a robust ecosystem that supports innovation, creativity, and economic growth,” Ogunlende emphasized.
