On this momentous occasion of Democracy Day, June 12, we celebrate the strength and resilience of our democratic journey. This day stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to our collective aspiration for a just and equitable society.
As we commemorate this significant day, let us embrace the core values of democracy—freedom, justice, and unity. It is essential that we, as Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, religion, or ethnicity, respect and value each other’s views. Our diversity is our strength, and in brotherhood, we can achieve great things.
To the heads of state institutions, your role is pivotal. I urge you to remain neutral and impartial in all your dealings. By promoting equity and fairness, you uphold the principles that our democracy is built upon. Your integrity is the foundation of public trust and the engine of national progress.
Moreover, I call upon all organs of government to honor the tenet of separation of powers. This principle ensures that no single branch dominates and that each can function independently yet cohesively. In doing so, we strengthen the delivery of services and maintain the balance that democracy requires.
To my fellow Lagos Mainlanders, I encourage you to place your faith in our current democratic dispensation. The future remains bright if we provide our leaders at all levels with the necessary support. Together, we can build a society where opportunities abound and where every citizen can thrive.
May our unity and determination continue to guide us toward a prosperous and democratic Nigeria.
