SOHABA Nursery and Primary School hosts a mock Hajj for its pupils, offering them insight into a core tenet of Islam. The initiative seeks to cultivate a profound connection to their faith early on, nurturing a comprehensive understanding of Islamic principles.
Mrs. Risqoh Abdulquadri, the Proprietress of SOHABA nursery and primary school, shared her passion for educating students on the five pillars of Islam, with a special focus on Hajj, in an exclusive interview with Ajasa-Info. She emphasized the foundational role of these pillars in defining one’s identity as a Muslim, underscoring the need for individuals to embody these principles in their lives.
Mrs. Abdulquadri outlined the primary objective of their program as nurturing a deep knowledge for the pillars of Islam, particularly Hajj, within the hearts of the pupils.
The core mission of the program revolves around instilling a love for the sacred pillars of Islam, including Hajj, in the students. By fostering a genuine affection for the house of Allah and the obligation to undertake Hajj, the school aims to inspire a desire in the children to embark on the pilgrimage as they mature. Furthermore, the program seeks to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Hajj, tailored to their developmental stage. This involves incorporating key lessons and rituals of Hajj into creative mediums, such as songs, to enhance comprehension and engagement.
She mentioned that the students at the school engaged in a quiz to test their understanding of Hajj. Additionally, on that same day, the preschool students watched a cartoon about Prophet Ibrahim, also known as Prophet Abraham in Christianity, highlighting the significance of his role in the context of Hajj. Mrs. Abdulquadri emphasized the inseparable connection between Hajj and Prophet Ibrahim, attributing a substantial portion of Hajj’s rites and practices to his legacy.
Continuing with the program’s activities, the school organized a Mock Hajj on the following day, simulating the pilgrimage experience for the male students by having them dress in attire reminiscent of the Haram. The objective was to provide a hands-on, immersive journey through the stages of Hajj, aiming to replicate the real-life pilgrimage as authentically as possible. The Mock Hajj event was deemed successful, with a focus on key elements such as the rituals of Arafa and the subsequent celebration of Eid.
Moreover, Mrs. Abdulquadri highlighted the importance of practical learning by incorporating essential aspects of Eid celebrations into the students’ experience. This practical Eid session aimed to familiarize the pupils with fundamental practices such as the sacrificial offering of a ram, daily prayers, and the spirit of joyous festivities.
The PTA Chairman, Lion Oladimeji Ishola, from SOHABA nursery and primary school, shared insights during a chat with Ajasa-Info, expressing the challenges faced in achieving full parental participation this year. He emphasized the lasting impact of childhood teachings on a child’s future, underlining the significance of the school’s program in shaping the children’s values and beliefs.
He highlighted the enthusiasm and dedication shown by the children towards the program, noting how some had fully embraced the teachings even before the official commencement. The excitement among the students was palpable, with some so engrossed in the activities that they found it hard to sleep, eagerly immersing themselves in the simulated Hajj experience.
