Nigerian Children Cultural Heritage (NCCH) celebrated Lagos at 57 and Children’s Day with a special Royalty edition on May 27th. The event showcased a variety of activities including an Inter School Competition, Eko Challenge, Oral Poetry Competition, Clothes Exhibition, Dance Competition, Food Exhibition, Cooking Competition, Fashion parade, Art and Craft Exhibition, and a Drum Exhibition.

Oluwakemi Fanimokun, the director of Nigerian Children’s Cultural Heritage, emphasized the importance of promoting indigenous languages and cultural values in Nigeria through their child-focused initiative. She highlighted the significance of celebrating Lagos State’s anniversary alongside Children’s Day on May 27, a tradition upheld for the past five years. This year’s theme, the “Royalty Edition,” underscores the essential role of royal fathers as custodians of culture in preserving and promoting Nigerian heritage.

Fanimokun stressed the collaborative effort required from parents, well-meaning Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to support and revitalize indigenous languages and cultural values. She expressed concern over the declining use of indigenous languages among children, emphasizing the need for collective action to prevent the loss of cultural identity.

The Nigerian Children’s Cultural Heritage initiative seeks to address the gap in language proficiency among children and advocates for the recognition and celebration of cultural heritage. Despite ongoing efforts, Fanimokun noted the challenges in garnering sufficient attention and support for cultural revitalization. She urged continued support to empower children in embracing and promoting their cultural heritage.

Mrs. Bisi Omojare, the Director of Creative Art, representing the Special Adviser on Tourism, Art, and Culture in Lagos State, praised the children for their dedication to upholding the Yoruba and other Nigeria Culture. She acknowledged the children’s impressive display of the indigenous Nigeria culture and encouraged them to continue embracing and preserving their heritage.

Mrs. Omojare also commended the Nigerian Children Cultural Heritage (NCCH) for their role in imparting the values and traditions of Nigeria culture to the children, evident in their vibrant display at the event.
