During his speech, Mayor Oshinowo highlighted that some traders have a market value of less than #20,000, but they are still saving. He explained that if they save #500 every day, that adds up to about #15,000 in a month. When combined with their initial savings of #20,000, it totals #70,000. This motivates people to save even more.

The Mayor’s personal connection to traders was also mentioned in his speech. This personal experience drives his dedication to supporting the grassroots and those facing abject poverty.

The program that was announced is set to be carried out on a monthly basis. It aims to empower widows and traders alike. What’s even more impressive is that the initiative is not limited to just one market. The Mayor and his team are reaching out to traders on the streets as well. This inclusive approach involves collaborating with the Community Development Committee (CDC) or Community Development Association (CDA).
