In response to the tragic fire outbreak at Dosunmu Market in Lagos on Tuesday, 9th April 2024, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, extends her deepest condolences to all marketers at the Market, particularly those whose businesses and properties were directly affected. Our thoughts are with you during this challenging time.
We use this medium to commend the swift and courageous efforts of the first responders, including the Fire Service and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASHMA) for their prompt response and relentless efforts in combating the inferno since it started.
We also acknowledge the exemplary Leadership of the Lagos State government under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, in managing the situation, support to those affected and proactive actions carried out in arresting the situation. We implore you to continue providing the necessary assistance and guidance.
This recent incident at Dosunmu Market underscores the critical need of the Lagos State Safety Agency to reassess the safety and structural integrity of markets across Lagos State especially that of Lagos Island as the incessant occurrence of fire outbreak at this market is a cause for concern.
As the Lagos State Safety Commission continues to explore strategies towards restructuring the entire Lagos Island Market to enhance safety and prevent future occurrences of incidents like this. We also urge the Lagos State government to assist victims in whatever way possible so that victims will not be out of business because of this incident. We believe with proper planning and adherence to safety standards, incidents like this will be mitigated In Sha Allah.
We stand in solidarity with the affected traders and the entire community of Dosunmu Market during this trying period. Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:155), “And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient.”
We pray that Allah grants patience and strength to all of you. May He grant you comfort and solace, and may He restore your losses in manifold. Ameen.
