In a concerted effort to combat drug abuse and crime in Ikorodu Division, the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL), in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ikorodu Branch, and other supporting organizations, concluded their impactful campaign on February 14th, Valentine’s Day.

The campaign train made its way through various locations, spreading awareness and promoting peace. Starting from Ita Elewa, down to Adaraloye junction, then to Itunmaja, to Ladega, to Garage and lastly to Ogolonto roundabout.

The campaign aimed to educate the community about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of maintaining a safe and crime-free environment. Through engaging activities, informative sessions, and community outreach, the campaign successfully reached out to residents and instilled a sense of responsibility in creating a peaceful society.

Hon. Adebimpe Akinshola expressed her concern over the alarming cases of young individuals being negatively influenced and even experiencing mental health issues due to drug abuse. As a mother herself, these incidents deeply sadden her, which is why they are actively spreading awareness and urging individuals to put an end to this destructive behavior.

As part of their comprehensive initiative, Hon. Adebimpe Akinshola highlighted the “share agenda,” which encompasses key areas such as Security, Education, Health, Environment, and road infrastructure under the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPiL). By tackling these crucial aspects, they aim to create a peaceful and prosperous environment for the residents of Ikorodu.

Working closely with the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, IDPiL has established a strong partnership with a recognized private institution that conducts training and operations. This collaboration emphasizes their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community.

Hon. Adebimpe Akinshola expressed gratitude to Odofin Adewunmi Ogusanya for his continuous support towards IDPiL. His unwavering assistance has played a significant role in their efforts to combat drug abuse and promote peace in Ikorodu.

Mr. Salami Awolaru, the director of finance and administration, Ikorodu division. He said the awareness is to sensitize the whole of Ikorodu that the effect of drugs is not something to write out. “By doing this we are also showing the younger ones that drugs is not good for them, by telling them the danger it can lead to.”

“When you see people on drugs, it has affected their life style, put them in lots of trouble and if they can’t get another drugs, they won’t be okay”. He said they want the community to be aware that taking drugs will make the society useless.

The Nollywood Actor, Adewale Elesho during the walk he was also preaching to parents to plead to their children to stop taking drugs as it will leads to their destruction, going forward he said whoever that’s taking drugs can never become a Governor, Council Chairman or anything meaningful in life.
