This year’s theme, “21st Century Parenting: Issues and Challenges,” was chosen to address the prevailing issues of failed parenting that contribute to various vices in our society, such as cultism, drug abuse, failed marriages, depression, school dropouts, yahoo, ritual killings, kidnapping, and gender-based violence, just to name a few.
The choice of this topic reflects the belief that parenting is at the core of these issues. By focusing on improving parenting, many of these vices can be automatically diminished. As Barr. Abimbola Obaseki mentioned in her speech, the family is the bedrock of society, and if the foundation is faulty, it becomes challenging for the righteous to do anything.
Getting parenting right is crucial for the betterment of our society. This year’s Law Week coincides with the 16 Days of Activism, a period where we raise awareness and sensitize our communities about gender-based violence. The theme for this year’s activism is “Unite, Invest in Women and Girls,” which is incredibly relevant when we consider the importance of proper parenting.
