LAGFERRY, the Lagos State Ferry Service, announced a special offer for residents of Shomolu-Bariga of which it has been in existence for months now, commuters can enjoy a 50% reduction in ferry fares when they use the cowry card for payment, this was announced During the stakeholders engagement by LAGFERRY to Sensitize commuters of Shomolu-Bariga yesterday at the Ilaje Bariga Waterfront Jetty (Love Lagos).

The cowry card, which can also be used for buses, trains, and water transportation, offers a convenient and cost-effective way to travel across Lagos. By utilizing the cowry card, residents can significantly reduce their daily transportation expenses.

Fadekemi Emmanuel, the representative of Hon. Seun Osiyemi Commission for Transportation, commended the efforts of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu in revolutionizing the Lagos State Ferry Services since 2019. With a total of 17 boats provided by the government in the past four years, the transportation system has been equipped, energized, and reimagined.

During the commissioning of the Bariga Terminal, there were initial challenges in seeing it fully operational for the benefit of the community. However, Emmanuel emphasized the importance of community engagement and urged the residents to take ownership of this establishment. The terminal was constructed with the people in mind, and it is essential for them to utilize and care for it.

Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, the MD/CEO of LAGFERRY, expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, stating, “We want to make transportation more affordable and accessible for the residents of Shomolu-Bariga. With the cowry card, they can enjoy seamless travel experiences while saving money.”

Hon. Abdoulbaq explained to the stakeholders that this offer comes as part of LAGFERRY’s commitment to enhancing the transportation system in Lagos and as part of the THEMES agenda of Governor Sanwo-Olu. With 45 identified water transportation routes, 15 priority routes, 7 terminals, and 43 jetties, LAGFERRY aims to provide residents with convenient and efficient travel options.

Futhermore, Hon. Abdoulbaq said to celebrate this exciting development, LAGFERRY has organized a special event called “Sail the Love Lagos Experience” on December 16th and 17th. Participants can join in the fun-filled activities by purchasing a ticket for just #5000. Departing from Bariga Waterfront, the event promises an unforgettable experience at Takwa Bay Island beach.

Engr. Nelson, the representative of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), called on residents to prioritize the use of Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY).

Engr. Nelson commended the efforts of the Lagos State Government in developing and improving the water transportation system. She stated the numerous benefits of LAGFERRY, including its convenience, efficiency, and ability to alleviate traffic congestion on the roads.

Ibrahim Famuyiwa, representative of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), praised the Governor of Lagos for his tireless efforts in advancing the transportation sector. Significant progress has been made, including the establishment of jetties, buses, and other transportation infrastructure.

Furthermore, Famuyiwa implores residents to consider utilizing water transportation as it offers a fast and easy alternative. By taking advantage of the water transport system, commuters can bypass traffic and enjoy a smooth journey across the city.

The representative of Kabiyesi of Shomolu, Iya Oloja, Hon. Orekoya ably represented, Hon. Apata ably represented, the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG ably represented, the Chief Imam, the CAN Representative, and the CDC representatives, Youths all expressed their appreciation for the progress made in developing the waterways transport system in Lagos. They highlighted the positive impact it has had on the daily lives of residents.

While praising the convenience and efficiency of water transportation, the representatives also appealed to Governor Sanwo-Olu to consider reducing the prices to make it more accessible and affordable for all Lagosians. They believe that a reduction in fares would encourage more people to utilize this mode of transport, leading to a further reduction in traffic congestion and promoting a cleaner environment.

Additionally, the representatives advised the government to explore advertising opportunities to create awareness among the general public about the benefits of waterways transport. They emphasized the importance of effective communication to ensure that residents are well-informed about the various routes, schedules, and safety measures in place.
