The maiden edition of the Ikorodu West Zonal Sports Festival witnessed an exhilarating and fun-filled moment of Athletes who portrayed their athletic prowess in a thrilling competition among schools in Ikorodu West LCDA Sponsored by OTUNBA(CHIEF) SULAIMON KAZEEM OLANREWAJU Executive Chairman, Ikorodu west LCDA which was tagged SKO ATHLETICS COMPETITION IN IKORODU WEST ZONAL SPORT FESTIVAL at C/S primary school sports ground on 4th December 2023.

OTUNBA SULAIMON KAZEEM OLANREWAJU said, I am extremely happy seeing the children participating in sporting activities with so much energetic scene display by the athletes, he commended the ikorodu West sport Technical officials for organizing and officiating the competition for the pupil across the nine(9) schools across ikorodu west LCDA, he cited Mary Onyali-Omagbemi who rose to the pinnacle of her career by featuring in the Olympic Games and other championships games as she also started her career from the grassroots and now she is a legend in game.


The competition categories include Match pass by all the schools, 100 meters boys and girls, 200meters boys and girls, 400 meters boys and girls, and 4 by 100 hundred meters boys and girls

Hon. Atewogboye Adebamiji (Skibanj) (SSA) to the Governor of Lagos State, on grassroots sport, he commended the organizers and the pupil, meanwhile, he also affirmed that the next edition will be more glamorous than this, as the competition will be given full support by the office of the (SSA) to the Governor on grassroots sport, we are here to discover talents and ensure you have a convenience sporting centre to display your talents, which is part of what was displayed here today.

He buttressed further by assuring the pupil that the next edition of the competition will be held in a more facilitated sports centre and we will identify a beautiful place for the competition next year which is part of the plans of leadership of the grassroots sport.

He also encouraged them to engage in sporting activities along with their education as he advised the children to write to the commission in case they are not allowed to engage in sports in their various schools.


Oba Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, Sekumade of Ipakodo kingdom, expressed his profound joy and happiness, “Seeing the kids running around the field, brings back memories of when I was also a kid, I am very happy to be here today to wittiness display of good character, especially from kids of these ages. I pray you all live long enough to fulfil your full potential and be in better places in life.”

The SKO Athletics Competition, The Maiden Edition of ikorodu west Zonal sport was won by C/S primary school (1) who held their ground by coasting home with 5 medals, 2 Golds, 2 Bronze and 1 silver, Waheed Abdullahi with astonishing performance, winning 2 Gold medals for his school in the competition, Local government primary school Ipakodo came second with 4 medals, 2 Gold 1 silver and 1 bronze, Local Government primary school Majidun came third with 4 medals, 1 Gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze, it was a well-contested competition from all participants who represented each school in the competition.
