… Ogunlana Funmilayo emerges as the 2023/24 Miss Ikorodu West.

National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ikorodu West Local branch celebrated her National Youth Day The event, established three years ago, addressed important issues affecting youth, celebrate their talents, and recognize their accomplishments throughout the year, the event took place on the 11th of November.

Ogunlana oluwanifesimi Funmilayo emerged as Miss Ikorodu West for the year 2023/24, Ogunlana who is a noun under graduate of BSC economics.

Dr. Saheed Ibikunle, the guest speaker who also represent Senator Tokunbo Abiru expressed his admiration for the youths dedication and involvement in shaping the future of the nation. The event, centered around the theme of “Youths and Nation Building,” encouraged participants to reflect on past achievements, the current state of the nation, and the collective efforts required for Nigeria’s progress.

Dr. Saheed Ibikunle acknowledged the significance of the town hall meeting, as it provided a platform for the youth to come together and engage in constructive discussions about the development of their society.

Dr. Saheed Ibikunle emphasized that we should never underestimate the potential and capabilities of the youth. Their passion, enthusiasm, and innovative ideas hold the key to driving positive change in the country.
Dr. Saheed Ibikunle applauded their willingness to harness their potential and collaborate on initiatives that will foster Nigeria’s growth and progress.

Dr. Saheed Ibikunle’s words serve as a reminder that the collective efforts of the youth can make a profound impact on the nation’s trajectory.

Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, congratulated the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ikorodu West branch for their remarkable achievements. He expressed his deep pride in their efforts and the positive impact they have made in the community. Hon. Olanrewaju also took the opportunity to share some valuable advice for the youth.

He emphasized the importance of education and urged the young generation to focus not just on obtaining certifications, but also on applying their knowledge in practical ways. According to Hon. Olanrewaju, the true value of education lies in its practical application. He encouraged the youth to internalize the knowledge they acquire and let it shape their actions and decisions.

In his speech, Comr. Asoro Abubakri the Coordinator of NYCN Ikorodu West local branch emphasized the clamor of young people for inclusiveness in governance, policy formulation, job opportunities, and empowerment. He acknowledged the historic milestone achieved by the local government, which has populated its cabinet with young minds, including the legislative arm. This step towards youth representation is seen as a testament to the “can do” spirit of young people.

Highlighting the achievements of young leaders in both the legislative and executive arms, Comr. Asoro Abubakri expressed his gratitude and called for the sustained implementation of the youth representation template.

Looking towards the future, Comr. Asoro Abubakri announced that his tenure as the 3rd Executive of NYCN Ikorodu West would soon come to an end in approximately seven months. As part of the transition process, he intentionally took a step back in organizing this year’s National Youth Day event to test if the legacies established would endure without his direct involvement. The resounding answer, according to Comr. Asoro Abubakri, is a confident YES.

One of the notable initiatives mentioned by Comr. Asoro Abubakri is the Annual Free JAMB Class and Annual Free JAMB Forms. Through this program, more than 100 forms have been distributed, providing opportunities for aspiring students to pursue higher education.

Additionally, the administration has focused on job creation, generating more than 50 direct and indirect job opportunities.

The administration has also been proactive in organizing awareness programs and executing grant projects.

Comr. Asoro Abubakri attributed the success of these initiatives to the values of transparency, trust, and accountability. He expressed gratitude to the administration’s partners, sponsors, and the Grand Patron, Otunba Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju FCA FCTI, for their unwavering support.

Hon. Adelani Okunade, the Supervisor for Youth and Sport in Ikorodu West LCDA, expressed his admiration and appreciation for the amazing youths of Ikorodu West. He acknowledged their role as excellent ambassadors in nation building and emphasized their potential to achieve even more.

Hon. Okunade said, the Government of Ikorodu West, and the people under the leadership of Hon. Olanrewaju Kazeem, expressed immense pride and happiness in working with these youths. He recognized them as valuable stakeholders in nation building and credited their contributions to the well-being and peaceful atmosphere of Ikorodu West.
