
On Friday, 10th November 2023, the Legislative Arm of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) organized a public hearing to discussed and gather feedback on a series of proposed bills.
The public hearing focused on several important bills that address various aspects of community development and regulation. These proposed bills included: Ikorodu Division Joint Security Task Force, Registration of Street Naming and Renewal: With this bill, Adoption of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Law, Adoption of Food and Regulated Premises Law, Revenue Items and Rate Collection Bill, Regulation of Street Carnivals in Ikorodu West LCDA, Regulation of Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle, Regulation and Control of Foodstuff Sales within Ikorodu West LCDA, Home Safety and Provisions of Fire Extinguisher and Fire Equipment, Fines for Dumping of Building Materials on Roads, Public, among others.
The Council Leader, Hon. Enitan Jessica Oba, delivered a powerful speech emphasizing the importance of public participation in democratic governance.
During her speech, Hon. Enitan Jessica Oba highlighted the significance of the public hearing as a platform for community members to have their voices heard. It was described as a crucial opportunity to collectively shape the policies and initiatives that will define the future of Ikorodu West LCDA. She commended everyone present for their active involvement and dedication to making a difference.
Furthermore, Hon. Enitan Jessica Oba reminded everyone of the importance of abiding by the local council’s laws and regulations. These laws are designed to create a framework within which our community can thrive. Compliance with these regulations was described as a legal obligation and a collective responsibility that ensures a harmonious and orderly development within our community.
In conclusion, the Council Leader encouraged everyone to approach future proceedings with a spirit of cooperation, understanding, and a shared commitment to the progress of Ikorodu West. Together, we can continue building a community that we can all be proud of—one that is inclusive and represents the voices of its diverse members.
Hon. Kazeem Olanrewaju, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, in his speech reflected on the significant progress made within the council during his tenure. Despite initial challenges.
Upon assuming office, Hon. Olanrewaju acknowledged the lack of infrastructure and limited financial resources within the council. However, he called upon the people to trust him and contribute their fair share through taxes. and they should contribute positively to the bylaws enactment. He said with their support, he has been able to accomplished a multitude of projects and initiatives.
Furthermore, Hon. Olanrewaju emphasized the importance of law abidance in achieving further progress. He expressed his belief that as long as the people continue to obey the law, the process of development and transformation will be much smoother and more efficient.
Hon. Batife Daisi, the Deputy Leader of Ikorodu West LCDA, in his remarks highlighted the importance of regulations and guidance for the residents of Ikorodu West LCDA. Hon. Daisi, along with his colleagues, recognized the need to establish unique laws specific to Ikorodu West LCDA, separate from those of other Local Government.
Acknowledging the responsibility entrusted to them by the people, Hon. Daisi emphasized the significance of making a meaningful impact during their tenure.
