Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, flag-off the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination into routine immunization camping in collaboration with Lagos State Health District II at the Local Government hall earlier today, 1st of November 2023.

In her speech, Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada expressed her honor to be present at the ceremony and emphasized the importance of the HPV vaccination program for the health and well-being of the community, particularly young girls. She highlighted that HPV is a common virus that can lead to serious health issues, including cervical cancer. By launching this vaccination campaign, they are taking proactive measures to protect the residents from the potential harms of HPV.

The primary objective of the program is to ensure that all eligible young girls in the community receive the HPV vaccine. Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada emphasized the significance of prevention in safeguarding the health of future generations and reducing the incidence of cervical cancer.

She expressed her gratitude to the healthcare professionals who will be administering the vaccines and acknowledged the contributions of their partners, including Health District II, Lagos State Healthcare Board, NPNCDA, WHO, UNICEF, and others, in making the program a reality.

Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada urged parents and guardians to support the initiative and ensure that their daughters receive the HPV vaccine, as it is a simple yet powerful way to protect their health and secure their future.

Afolabi Christiana, the Health Education Officer of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, in her words “HPV Immunization program aimed at preventing cervical cancer among girls. The vaccine, which is free of charge, will be administered to girls aged 9 to 14 years.”

Christiana emphasized the importance of this initiative in curbing cervical cancer and protecting the health of young girls. By providing the vaccine, the government is taking proactive steps to prevent this life-threatening disease. The vaccine will remain active in their system for the next ten years, providing long-term protection.

The HPV Immunization program aims to make the vaccine easily accessible to girls by bringing it directly to their doorsteps. This approach ensures that all eligible girls have the opportunity to receive the vaccine and safeguard their health.

Cervical cancer is a significant health concern, and this immunization program plays a crucial role in reducing its prevalence. By vaccinating girls at a young age, the Government is taking a proactive approach to prevent the development of cervical cancer later in life.
