Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, the Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, and Hon. Femi Saheed, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Kosofe constituency 2, yesterday they visited the flood-affected areas in Agiliti-Mile 12, Elias Estate in Ajegunle, and Opic Ward A, which shares a boundary with Ogun state. During their visit, they were fortunate to meet Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state and the Minister of Water of the federation Dr. Ishaq Salako, and Minister of Water Resources Mr. Joseph Terlumun It was a collaborative effort to assess the situation and provide support to the affected communities.

Princess Samiat Bada, expressed her heartfelt sympathy for the residents and reiterated her unwavering commitment to the community. Princess Samiat acknowledged that some people are to blame for building houses on canals and drainages, which has exacerbated the flooding situation. The local government is taking steps to address this issue by demolishing such structures.

In light of the recent flooding, Princess Samiat advised residents to temporarily relocate for their own safety. She acknowledged that leaving one’s home is not an easy decision, but emphasized the paramount importance of preserving lives. She assured the residents that this is just a phase and they will overcome it together. The Local Government is actively working to find solutions and is appealing to the residents for their understanding and cooperation.

Princess Samiat also urged the residents to refrain from staying in the affected areas, as it would be akin to putting their lives at risk. She emphasized that Ikosi-Isheri LCDA is deeply concerned about their well-being and will continue to support them throughout this challenging time. The mayoress assured the residents that they are not alone in this, and the entire community stands united in overcoming the aftermath of the flooding.

The Local Government is committed to finding long-term solutions to prevent future flooding incidents. Princess Samiat encouraged residents to work hand in hand with the Government to ensure a safer and more resilient community. Together, they will overcome this challenge and rebuild their lives stronger than ever before. The Mayoress expressed her gratitude to the residents for their resilience and urged them to stay hopeful for a brighter future.

Hon. Femi Saheed, the representative of Kosofe constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, expressed his concerns about the yearly flooding in the area.

He emphasized the need for proper drainage and channelization of water to mitigate the adverse effects of the flooding. Hon. Saheed advised residents to prioritize their safety and not take matters into their own hands.

He assured them that the government is actively working to alleviate their suffering and has reported the situation to the appropriate authorities in Abuja. He said the local government chairman is also there, to visited the affected areas to show support and solidarity with the residents. With concerted efforts from the local, state, and federal levels, a resolution to this recurring issue is expected to be achieved.

Mr. Yinka Adebayo, the CDA chairman of Agiliti Phase 11, expressed gratitude to the Chairman, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and the Councillor and highlighted the urgent needs of the community. He emphasized the importance of having a canal with proper drainage to address the water encroachment issue.

Yinka mentioned the positive impact of the state government’s intervention in Shomolu, where dredging the canal resolved the problem. He also called for the tarring of roads in Agiliti, Berger, and Link Road to support the community. With over 500 houses in the area, the residents face daily challenges due to the lack of good roads, canals, and hospitals. The CDA has undertaken self-help initiatives, including embankment projects, but the water levels continue to rise each year.
