Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State earlier today inaugurated the ‘Live Camera Update Project’ for Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1FM. This project aims to provide timely, reliable, accurate, and dynamic traffic reportage and travel advisory to its listeners.

Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Commissioner of Transportation Mr. Bayo Osiyemi, In his speech, Mr. Osiyemi highlighted the significance of this event, showcasing the administration’s commitment to using state-of-the-art technology to enhance Government operations and services.

The acquisition of the camera infrastructure is part of the administration’s efforts to address operational challenges in various sectors, including traffic management, healthcare services, land management, and urban planning. With the growing population in Lagos, the use of technological tools has become imperative to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and improve the overall efficiency of the city.

This infrastructure will tackle issues such as latency in collated traffic reports and inaccurate descriptions by LASTMA streamers. By providing live feeds, the radio station will be able to deliver more accurate and up-to-date traffic information, enabling commuters to make informed decisions and navigate the city more efficiently.

The ‘Live Camera Update Project’ is a significant addition to the array of technological-driven initiatives adopted by the administration to enhance the free flow of traffic in the metropolis. It aligns with the smart city project and demonstrates the administration’s commitment to leveraging technology for the benefit of its residents.

Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy in his speech, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and all those present, This groundbreaking initiative, provided by the Lagos State government, aims to enhance the services of Lagos Traffic Radio, benefiting all travelers, motorists, and individuals in need of traffic information within our state.

Mr. Omotoso acknowledged the ongoing challenge of traffic in Lagos, particularly due to the rapid increase in population resulting from rural-urban migration. With a population density of around 330 vehicles per kilometer and 11 vehicles per square meter in certain areas, the city often experiences traffic congestion. To address this issue, the Lagos State government has prioritized the establishment of Lagos Traffic Radio 96.1 FM as part of the solution.

Lagos Traffic Radio is a prominent radio station dedicated to providing comprehensive travel reports. Its primary objective is to serve as a reliable source of information, facilitating smooth movement for Lagosians from one location to another.

Mr. Tubosun Alake, Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, represented by a Director in the ministry expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Information and Strategy for their support during the launch of the innovative project. He mentioned that the project had been in operation for some time and even shared his personal involvement, stating that he taught programming for several months before the official launch.

Mr. Alake emphasized the ministry’s commitment to providing continuous support and pledged to further enhance the project’s capabilities. He mentioned plans to expand the camera network and make additional resources available to Lagos Traffic Radio to help them fulfill their mandate of delivering accurate and real-time traffic updates.

Furthermore, Mr. Alake highlighted that the ministry’s dedication to innovation, science, and technology extends beyond this project. He emphasized the importance of collaboration and encouraged stakeholders from other ministries, agencies, and sectors within Lagos State to come together and find effective solutions to various challenges.

In his vote of thanks, Mr. Tayo Akanle, the General Manager of Lagos Traffic Radio, expressed his gratitude for the tremendous support received from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the entire Lagos State government. After a year of planning, this project has become a resounding success.

Mr. Akanle specifically thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support, not only for this project but also for the various activities carried out by the station. The governor has been a pillar of support throughout the process. He also expressed appreciation to Mr. Bayo Osiyemi, the Commissioner of Transportation, for representing the governor at the event, and to the Commissioner for Science and Technology, their major partner in this endeavor.

The General Manager extended his gratitude to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, who heads the information channel of the Lagos State government. He also acknowledged the permanent secretary for information and strategy, Mr. Shogunle, for keeping them on their toes. Lastly, Mr. Akanle expressed his thanks to all the attendees for their presence and support.
