In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Save A Girl Foundation organized a full-day workshop for girls from secondary schools across Ikorodu Division on the 11th of October. The workshop aimed to equip these young girls with essential skills and empower them to explore various fields of interest.

Comfort Olafare, Founder Save A Girl Foundation, in her speech during the International Day of the Girl Child celebration. She highlighted the foundation’s dedication to nurturing and empowering girls for self-actualization and success.

In her words “Over a hundred girls from various schools in the Ikorodu Division gathered for this special event, eager to absorb valuable knowledge. The foundation aimed to educate them on critical subjects such as the importance of education, acquiring essential skills, the role of technology, the dangers of drug abuse, and the significance of self-reliance and confidence.”

“These topics serve as the building blocks for the girls’ future success and development. Comfort Olafare’s goal was to instill in their young minds a profound belief in their own abilities and potential. She emphasized that with commitment and determination, there are no limits to what they can achieve.”

Ilesanmi Temitayo, who represented the Tutor General Permanent Secretary of Education District II, emphasizing the importance of good behavior in the classroom. Temitayo encouraged them to strive for greatness and become future leaders of the country. With a strong message of focus and determination, He instilled in them the belief that they have the power to shape a brighter future.

Abdulquyum Aromire, the Communication Lead at Teknik, encouraged the girls to embrace technology as a crucial aspect of this century. He highlighted the achievements of Tolani Alli, a talented female photographer who worked with the former Vice President for eight years. Aromire also shared inspiring stories of other successful women in the tech space, motivating the girls to pursue tech-related studies and make the most of their mobile devices for research.

Arinola Okeowo, the CEO of Ultra Farms, took the girls on a journey through her own experiences as a young girl. She shared how she discovered her passion for agriculture and built a successful business in the field. Okeowo encouraged the girls not to limit themselves to the confines of the classroom but to also explore and develop practical skills that would benefit them in the future.

Mrs. Kalesanwo, the Director of the Lagos Agency for Mass Education, was represented by Deputy Director Mrs. Oladunjoye. Mrs. Oladunjoye echoed Okeowo’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of learning practical skills. She informed the girls about a skill center in Ikorodu where they could learn various skills of their choice for free, providing them with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and capabilities.

Ejiro Ubierohwo, a passionate advocate for the well-being of teenagers, addressed the young girls, urging them to steer clear of the alarming issue of drug abuse prevalent in today’s society. Recognizing the dangers associated with this growing problem, she emphatically advised them to resist the temptation and make choices that prioritize their health and future.

The Save A Girl Foundation’s workshop left a lasting impact on the girls, empowering them to dream big and explore diverse fields. By nurturing their skills and encouraging them to break barriers, the foundation is playing a vital role in shaping the future of these young girls.
