Ipakodo Kingdom celebrated the 5th Anniversary of Oba (Engr) Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, FNSE, the Sekumade of Ipakodo on the throne and the grand finale of the Annual Ipakodo Day Celebrations. The event, held on Saturday, October 7th, 2023.

In a momentous move to commemorate the 5th Coronation Anniversary of Oba (Engr) Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, FNSE, the Sekumade of Ipakodo Kingdom, plans are underway to construct the magnificent Oba Sekumade Pavilion.

Keynote speech by Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem the newly Chieftaincy title holder in Ipakodo Kingdom as the Bobatunluse of Ipakodo Kingdom, he expressed his sincere gratitude to Oba Engr Basher Aremu Sotonwa, the Sekunmade of Ipakodo Kingdom, the noble houses, advisors, citizens of Ipakodo, and the political leaders who have supported and guided him on this remarkable journey.

As the Executive Chairman and title holder, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju pledged to protect and serve the realm, ensuring the welfare and happiness of all citizens. With unity, wisdom, and the strength of their shared history, they will forge ahead towards a brighter future.

Dr. (Chief) Harrison Bolaji Adeniji, Chairman of the 2023 Ipakodo Day & Obasekumade 5th Coronation Anniversary Joint Planning Committee, delivered a welcome address of the twin events on Saturday, October 7th, 2023.

Expressing deep gratitude and honor, Dr. Adeniji addressed the esteemed gathering on the auspicious occasion of the 2023 Ipakodo Day and the 5th Coronation Anniversary of HRM Oba Basiru Arermu Sotonwa (Osomeku 1), The Sekumade of Ipakodo. He welcomed the Obas, Chiefs, Government functionaries, residents, and distinguished guests to this historic celebration.

Dr. Adeniji also acknowledged and appreciated the active participation of the Ipakodo Royal Families, socio-political and artisan groups, ethnic nationalities, and youth groups throughout the week-long commemorative activities. The Ipakodo Day Celebrations, which began last year, serve as a unifying platform for all stakeholders in Ipakodo, fostering a spirit of celebration and engagement.

His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr) Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, FNSE, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, delivered his speech at the occasion.

Expressing his immense joy, Oba Basiru Arema Sotonwa praised the unity and support of the Ipakodo community, both indigenes and non-indigenes. Last year’s inaugural Ipakodo Day Celebrations surpassed all expectations, and this year’s event holds even more significance as it coincides with the King’s 5th Coronation Anniversary.

The King highlighted the transformative journey of the Ipakodo Kingdom, emphasizing the end of dark days and the emergence of a united community with a shared vision and purpose. The Ipakodo Day Celebrations have become a cherished annual tradition, providing a platform for the community to come together and celebrate their unique identity.

His Royal Highness, the revered monarch of Ipakodo Kingdom, calls upon the collective support of the Ipakodo Ruling Houses, Notable Families, Sons/Daughters, Residents, and all Ipakodo-based Corporate Bodies and Business Owners to contribute towards this momentous project. The aim is to create a legacy that will stand as a symbol of the kingdom’s heritage and progress.

As the Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Basiru Aremu Sotonwa expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to fulfill the collective dream of the Ipakodo community. In less than five years of his reign, he has successfully established an event that has become a source of pride for the kingdom.

Kabiyesi expressed his gratitude to the Lagos State Government, under the able leadership of Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for their swift response to the call for a new and befitting Oba Sekumade Palace. State officials have already met with the kingdom’s representatives, assuring their commitment to fulfilling this request in due course.

Rep. Babajimi Benson, Chairman of the House Committee on Defense, delivered a heartfelt speech as the Chairman of the Day

Expressing his happiness and gratitude, Hon. Benson revealed that he is a proud Prince of the Osomeku Royal Family, hailing from the Ipakodo Kingdom. Though he has the royal blood to ascend the throne of Sekumade, he is delighted that his father and uncle, HRM Oba Basiru Aremu Sotonwa FNSE (Osomeku 1), is already fulfilling that role for their family lineage.

Being the Chairman of the twin celebrations is a great honor for Hon. Benson, as it feels like a warm homecoming experience. As the Representative Member for Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, he proudly declares his deep connection to Ipakodo and his commitment to its development.

Hon. Benson took the opportunity to highlight some of the developmental projects he has facilitated for Ipakodo, including an ICT center at Anglican Primary School Isawo, a block of 8 classrooms at UPE Ajaguro, a block of 3 classrooms at UPE Ajaguro, and another block of 8 classrooms at LG Primary School, Ipakodo.

In addition, the Chairman has overseen the installation of solar-powered street lights along Ayegbajeje/Odugate Road in Ogolonto, enhancing safety and visibility for residents during nighttime hours among others.


The Chairman expressed his dedication to the overall development of Ipakodo Kingdom. As a gesture of support, he pledged a generous donation towards the construction of the Oba Sekumade Palace Pavilion, recognizing the urgent need for a revitalization of one of the oldest palaces in Ikorodu Division.

The Chairman also extended heartfelt congratulations to Oba Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, on his historic 5th Coronation Anniversary. Under his visionary leadership, the Kingdom has experienced remarkable progress, unity, and peace.
