
The Lagos State Polytechnic Students Union Judiciary Council (SUJC) recently organized its annual symposium, centered around the theme of “Social Justice.” The event, held at the 700-seater auditorium, aimed to familiarize students with the SUJC and provide guidance on navigating challenges they may face.
The symposium featured esteemed guests from various sectors, including representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, Federal Ministry of Justice, Public Defense, and Domestic Violence experts. These experts shared valuable insights into students’ rights and responsibilities as citizens.
Chief Justice Oyebade Isaac in his welcome address, highlighting the difficulties in achieving social justice and the purpose behind the “Social Justice” event. He emphasized the importance of empowering students with knowledge on addressing injustices they may encounter.
Barrister Ajibola Sijuade, representing the National Human Rights Commission, delivered a keynote address defining social justice as an integral aspect of human rights. She stressed the inviolability of these rights and cautioned against engaging in cultism, outlining the legal consequences associated with such activities.
DSP Adegbami Isiaka also addressed the audience, shedding light on the limitations within the realm of human rights. He urged students to exercise their rights responsibly and emphasized the need to refrain from engaging in criminal activities like cultism.
The SUJC’s symposium on “Social Justice” served as an informative platform for students to learn about their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of upholding social justice in society.
