Ikorodu Oga Lions Club celebrated International Youth Day by organizing a career talk for students of Ikorodu High School. The event, which was held earlier today in commemoration of International Youth Day, was themed “Get Connected, Stay Connected.”
The career talk was aimed at helping students make informed decisions about their future careers.
In her opening remarks, the first Vice President Leo-Lion Olude encouraged the students to pay attention to the speakers and learn from their experiences. She emphasized the importance of taking advantage of opportunities to learn and grow, and the value of learning from those who have gone before them. She also encouraged the students to ask questions and participate in the discussion.
Lion Rotimi Alashe discussed “Money Matters” and shared his inspiring story of rising from humble beginnings to become an accountant and business owner. He encouraged the students to pursue their dreams and never give up. He also shared some courses that someone needed to take in university to become a successful accountant.
Lion Queen Latifah Okunola spoke about the dangers of drug, alcohol, and sex and how they can affect a student’s life and future.
She urged the students to stay away from these vices and focus on their education and future careers. She emphasized the importance of making the right choices and finding positive role models to help guide them on their journey to success.
Lion Adefunke Esan discussed mental health, specifically depression, and the negative impact it can have on a person’s life. She highlighted the importance of seeking help when feeling down and encouraged the students to support their friends and loved ones who may be struggling with mental health issues.
She explained that mental health is just as important as physical health and that it’s okay to ask for help when feeling overwhelmed. She also provided some resources for students to access if they need help.
The career talk was well received by the students, who expressed their gratitude to the Lions Club for organizing the event. The Ikorodu Oga Lions Club has a long history of supporting the youth in the community and this event is just one of the many ways in which they continue to make a positive impact.
