The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Nigeria has conducted a two-day training in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Youth. The training was designed to deliver comprehensive life skill education to out-of-school youth and empower them with accurate information to make informed decisions related to their health and wellbeing.
With Lagos having a youth-based population and a significant number of out-of-school youths who are vulnerable to coercion, sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancy, UNFPA recognized the need to collaborate with youth-led CSOs including people living with disability focused CSOs from 10 Local Governments to meet their specific needs.
The training aimed to build an inclusive society and equip young people with the necessary skills to navigate their transition from childhood to adolescence and adulthood successfully.
Ten CSOs (including PWD) from different local Government areas of the state participated in the training, and they will now pass on the acquired knowledge to out-of-school youth in their respective communities. The goal is to create a generation of well informed and empowered youths who can make responsible choices concerning their sexual and reproductive health.
By investing in life skills education, UNFPA Nigeria aims to create a more informed and responsible generation of young individuals.
