As part of his oversight functions in cushioning the effect of the fuel subsidy by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Honourable member of the Federal House of Representatives, representing Lagos Island Federal Constituency 2 at the National Assembly has facilitated an Empowerment program for the people of his constituency.

The program that was organized by the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research in conjunction with Skystream Investment Limited had in attendance a total of 100 participants who were trained on Fish Farming.

Hon. Akiolu who was duly represented by Hon. Bode Oginni at the event said The Honourable is committed to the growth of his people and also sourcing for ways to cushion the effect the fuel subsidy might have brought to them, he continued by saying one of the ways to alleviate people of hardship being faced by them is not just to give them money but rather to give them what will be a source of income to them as these is one of the ways to build a society.

The Honorable has promised his people that this is just a tip of an iceberg as more opportunities are underway which will not only aid the growth of the people of Constituency 2 but also ensure it’s development in terms of ensuring adequate facilitated projects.

The program which was held at the Onikan Youth Center had in attendance 100 beneficiaries who were trained by an expert from the Institute.

The beneficiaries were at the venue empowered with 500 fingerlings of fish, 5 bags of feeds and above all a ₦50,000 cash for each of the beneficiaries to kickstart the business.

Some of the beneficiaries at the event, thanked the Institute and their partner for the knowledge imparted in them to kickstart the business and also appreciated the Honourable for being the facilitator of such huge empowerment as this will create a difference in the lives of the beneficiaries and their families, they prayed and also hope to see more of such opportunities from the office of the Honourable.

The institute were represented at the empowerment program by;

Dr. Ayaobu-Cookey – Co-ordinator,Mr Akinwusi, Dara – Media, Mr Jibrin, Ibrahim – Admin, Mr Oyanna, Sunday – Admin.

Finally, Hon. Akiolu through his representative at the event appreciated the beneficiaries for coming and also participated in the training exercise, he however encourage them to ensure they make good use of this opportunity to liberate themselves from the current situation within the country.
