The Ikorodu Ambassadorial Team of the Lagos State Youth Ambassadors has recently partnered with Pad-Network, a Purity, Abstinence and Discovery initiative, and the National Association of Ikorodu Division Students in a Secondary Schools Outreach project. The partnership proved to be a success, as the Grand Team carried out a sustainable project in Ikorodu on the 13th and 14th of July 2023. The project, which was tagged “Give a Girl Child a Pad,” is a laudable initiative that aims to provide sanitary items to girls in secondary schools in the area.

Amb. Samiat Ishola, the Ikorodu Division Ambassador encouraged the young girls to talk openly about their experiences with menstruation and to understand that it is a natural and small part of life. By doing this, they helped to empower the girls and gave them the confidence they need to pursue their dreams. This is especially important because many girls feel embarrassed or ashamed to talk about their periods, which can lead to feelings of isolation and low self-esteem. By breaking down the stigma surrounding menstruation.

Amb. Samiat expressed her appreciation to the entire team for their support and full involvement in the project. She also extended her heartfelt gratitude to the Lagos State Youth Ambassador, Amb. Aderounmu Wuraola Zainab, who joined the team in the project.

The six schools chosen for the project are a representative of each of the six LCDAs in Ikorodu. Hundreds of students from the following secondary schools benefited from the sanitary items:
– Oreyo Grammar School, Igbogbo (Igbogbo LCDA)
– Isiu Grammar School, Government (Ikorodu North LCDA)
– Model College, Owutu (Ikorodu West LCDA)
– Luwasa Grammar School, Ijede (Ijede LCDA)
– Yewa Grammar School, Aga (Ikorodu Central LCDA)
– AUD Grammar School, Imota (Imota LCDA)

The project was not just about providing sanitary items to girls, but it was also about raising awareness about menstrual health and hygiene. The team organized a series of workshops and seminars for the girls, where they learned about menstrual health, hygiene, and the importance of using sanitary products.

It is heartwarming to see young people making a positive impact in their community. The “Give a Girl Child a Pad” initiative is an important project that can help girls stay in school and achieve their goals. The project is a testament to the power of youth-led initiatives and the importance of community involvement.

The success of the project is a testament to the power of partnerships and collaboration. The Ikorodu Ambassadorial Team of the Lagos State Youth Ambassadors, Pad-Network, and the National Association of Ikorodu Division Students have shown that by working together, they can make a positive impact in their community.
