Based on the invitation letter sent to Association of Telephone, Cable TV and Internet Subscriber of Nigeria (ATCIS) a leading advocacy body with over 223 million telecom subscriber memberships across the 36 states within six geo-political zones for Non Nigerian and Nigerian, with a mission to promote mutual co-existence, fair play, defend the right among subscribers by endorsing and ensuring good products and network service delivery from network operators and service providers to its members, while providing a platform to advance the right of Telephone, Cable TV and Internet subscribers throughout Nigeria, representative members are on ground across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria with others 64 Excos, under the leadership of Hon Prince Sina Bilesanmi aka Ojueko National President to Industry Consumer Advisor Forum ICAF 2023 Open Forum on theme Combatting E-Fraud on Telecom Platform Building Consumer Confidence in the Digital Economy, Courtesy of The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has revealed that Nigerian Telecom Subscriber’s have lost about N12.5 billion plus to financial crimes linked to the telecommunications industry in four years.

The commission’s Director of Consumer Affairs, Dr Al-kasim Umar disclosed this at the 2nd quarter of the 2023 Open Forum of the Industry Consumer Advisory Forum organized by NCC in Lagos on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Asides from pointing out that e-fraud poses a significant threat to Nigeria as it undermines the trust and confidence in the country’s digital platforms, hampers economic growth, and adversely impacts the lives of its citizens, he added that the NCC recognizes its duty to safeguard the interests of consumers and protect the digital ecosystem. “According to some reports, Nigerians have lost about N12.5 billion plus to financial crimes linked to the telecommunications industry in the past four years.

“The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) estimated that $600 billion is lost to cybercrime each year, an increase from a 2014 study that put global losses at about $445 billion.”
