The Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Rt. Honorable (Dr.) Azeezat Yishawu extends warm congratulations to His Excellency President Bola Tinubu on his inauguration as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We commend President Tinubu’s leadership and express our unwavering commitment to working collaboratively with the new administration to advance the interests and aspirations of Nigerian youth.

The Nigerian Youth Parliament recognizes the immense potential and capabilities of our young population. We believe that their empowerment and inclusion in decision-making processes are vital for the sustainable development and progress of our great nation. We, therefore, urge the new administration to prioritize youth and women’s inclusion in all spheres of governance.

As the voice of the Nigerian youth, we implore President Tinubu to uphold the campaign promises made during the electoral process. We call on the new government to prioritize key areas such as quality education, job creation, skills development, and entrepreneurship opportunities for our young people. By investing in these areas, we can unlock the full potential of our youth, foster innovation, and build a prosperous and inclusive Nigeria.

President Tinubu’s wealth of experience and visionary leadership provide a strong foundation for shaping Nigeria’s future. The Nigerian Youth Parliament stands ready to collaborate with the new administration in implementing youth-centric policies and programs. We emphasize the need for an open and inclusive government that listens to the voices, aspirations, and concerns of young Nigerians. Together, we can create a Nigeria where every young person has equal opportunities to thrive and contribute to national development.

Fellow Nigerian Youth,

The 2023 general elections pose a major leap in the destiny of our nation with another opportunity to elect our leaders. As young people the current electoral provisions enables us the best opportunities yet, to participate through the ballot and get our voice heard.

I urge you to go out in sacrifice on Saturday 25th February and Saturday 11th March to vote for our preferred candidates, without forcing any hindrence to the participation of other persons.

We may not have gotten it perfectly right in the past, but this and every other opportunity is a chance to make a choice about those we want to lead us.

The President is not the sole leader of the country, hence we should ensure to examine the candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, Governorship and State Assembly, and vote our choice.

The Nigerian Youth Parliament stands with the Nigerian Youth, and against any act of violence or sabotage that will prevent the will of the people from manifesting.

Nigerian Youth Parliament, Lagos Central Senatorial District hosts Inter-Secondary Schools Debate Competition Presents winners with Laptop, Mobile Tablets ~Ajasa-Info


The Representative for Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Youth Parliament; Abdulmumin Edidi hosts inter-secondary school debate on drug abuse, presents winners with Laptops, Mobile Tablets etc.

The representative of Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Youth Parliament; Abdulmumin Edidi organized an inter-secondary school debate competition on drug abuse amongst public secondary schools in Lagos Central Senatorial District.

The preliminary round of the competition, which was held on Wednesday 29th June 2022, had students of 29 schools across Lagos central senatorial district, 13 junior and 13 senior state schools from the 13 LGAs/LCDAs in addition to the 3 federal government schools in the constituency, Kings college Lagos, Queens college Yaba, and Federal Science and Technical college Yaba debate various topics revolving the drug abuse menace including; Boys are more likely to abuse drugs than girls, The Government is to blame for increasing rate of drug abuse amongst students, Drug abuse is the major cause of gender base violence, Drug abusers should be treated and not punished, Social media is a major hub for drug abusers, Parents are responsible for the increasing rate of drug abuse amongst youth, Poverty is the cause of drug abuse, and Drug abuse is more of a health issue than a criminal issue.

Four (4) Junior Secondary schools; State Junior High School, United Christian Junior Secondary School, Queens College Yaba, and Kuramo Junior School, as well as Four (4) Senior Secondary Schools; King Ado Senior High School, Queens College Yaba, Araromi Senior Secondary School, and State Senior High School qualified for the final which was held on Wednesday 6th July 2022.

A total of 160 students, from 16 senior and 16 junior secondary schools participated in the debate, which is designed to initiate the conversation against drug abuse in secondary schools through peer-to-peer education. It is an initiative drawn from the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Drug and Substance Abuse Control Policy Brief 2022, which recommends cognitive behavioural health education in schools in bid to eradicate the menace from public schools.

At the debate finale which had in attendance; Representative of the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Hon. Segun Dawodu, SSA on Health to Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih who represented the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Representative of H.E Dame Abimbola Fashola, Former First Lady of Lagos State and Chairman Leadership, Empowerment, and Resource Network, Representative of the Chairman Apapa LGA; Hon. Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo, and Representative of CEO Temple

Management Company, Mr. Idris Olorunimbe, the finalists debated on; Students are better advocates against drug abuse amongst their peers than Teachers, and Establishment of Drug Free Clubs in schools is a necessary move rather than an unsustainable one, in the fight against drug abuse. The Guest Speaker, Dr. Ololade Adeyemi CEO Magna Carta Health, spoke on the theme of the debate: Stemming the tides of drug abuse.

The debate contest ended with Khalid Oyebanji, and Precious Adedimeji of King Ado Senior High School, Lagos Island LGA emerging winners, Mewunu Olorunwa and Fathia Jamiu of Araromi Senior Secondary School Apapa Iganmu LCDA, first runners up, while Rachael Joseph and Abdulrahmon Shifau of State Senior High School Surulere LGA, emerged second runners up for the senior category. Deborah Adebayo and Mistura Bello of State Junior High School Surulere LGA, emerged winners, Samuel Ayeji and Hannah Bankole of United Christian Junior Secondary School Apapa LGA, emerged first runners up, while Faith Sunday, and Mary Akinlade of Kuramo Junior College emerged second runners up of the junior category respectively.
The winners of the senior categories were presented with one laptop for each of the students, while winners of the junior category were presented with one mobile tablet for each of the students amongst other prizes of school bags, books and cash. The first runners up and second runners up for both categories were also presented with prizes of school bags, books, and specialized training opportunities, while all other participants in the debate received books and certificates of participation.

The debate is not just a contest but an advocacy through which a new breed of 160 student Anti-Drug Abuse Advocates have been raised across 29 senior and junior secondary schools in Lagos central senatorial district. The debate would be followed by establishment of Drug Free Clubs in the schools as part of the plan to sustain advocacy against drug abuse in public secondary schools in Lagos State. The Nigerian Youth Parliament is taking the lead in the fight against drug and substance abuse in the country, as various parliamentarians are deploying initiatives in their respective constituencies to combat the menace.

The third edition of the annual event has come and gone but not without leaving behind memories of impact and inspiration for the younger generation of Nigerians with This year themed: “Africa of the Future: Fostering Inclusive Prosperity for the Next Generation” The mission of the RAYLF is to unveil the greatness of Africa’s future by inspiring, transforming, celebrating, and empowering its new, best, and brightest young leaders’ success stories. Since 2020, the Ooni of Ife has honored and celebrated 100 outstanding African youths yearly.

This year event saw the Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament Rt Hon (Dr.) Azeezat Yishawu who was the first female speaker of the assembly selected among 99 other including “Blood Sister” movie sensation Nancy Isime, Patricia CEO and billionaire sponsor of Big Brother Naija 2021 Fejiro Hanu Agbodje and Reality Tv show super star Olamilekan Agbeleshebioba ‘LAYCON’ honourary recipient of the prestigious Royal African Award from the house of Arole Oodua, His Imperial Majesty- Oba Enitan Adeyeye Babatunde Akande Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife in a marathon 3 days event starting from Friday 20th May to Sunday 22nd May at the prestigious Oduduwa Hall of Obafemi Awolowo University, and the Ife Grand Resort and Industrial Hub Ile Ife, Osun State.

Dr Azeezat led a powerful delegation to the epoch event at the ancient city and the cradle of the Yoruba race include Abdulfatai Ajibola Are NYCN Lagos East, members of the national youth Parliament Oyede Oke Ogun, Salisu Mubarak Ogun Central, Jamiu Popoola Osun Central, Fagbowore Medaiyeshe Osun East, Sunday B Owoborode President, Ijesa Youth Forum, Ilesanmi Samuel Godwin President Federation of Ijesha Student Union,Temitope Oloola founder HeartToGive foundation and Temitope Wuraola.

The honour of Onirisa is a charge to all awardee to do more for the black race and provide solution to problem facing the race and her continents in the 21st century.



The Representative of Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Youth Parliament; Abdulmumin Edidi hosted youth in their numbers at Campos Mini Stadium on Sunday 8th May, 2022 to the first ever Lagos Central Youth Hangout.

The event which was planned in 5 days featured games such as Football, Chess, Scrabble, Monopoly, Ayò, and Ludo in a very serene, noncompetitive atmosphere had youth across the 5 LGAs and 8 LCDAs in Lagos Central Senatorial District. It is worthy to note that, the event further proves the potential that young people bare, and why it should be harnessed for community development.

Online PVC registrations were also done on the spot for young people who were yet to register.

The Nigerian Youth Parliament through the office of the Majority Leader and Committee for Inter – Parliamentary Affairs is set to hold a 2 day virtual workshop for young aspiring leaders scheduled as follows:

Date: Thursday 8th and Friday 9th October, 2020

Time: 10am prompt

Venue: Zoom

The workshop is aimed at training Youths on elections and electioneering process,

Getting young leaders engaged by experienced and highly profiled personalities on pros and cons of winning an election,

And exposing young aspiring legislators to the functions, limitations, and differences between the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly.

In addendum, the workshop is focused on helping young aspiring legislators learn the rudiments of building reputation for election.

Interested applicants and young aspiring leaders are implored you ensure active participation in the two days workshop as there will be Certificate of participation issued to all participants at the end of the program.
