… AND WHY OGUN STATE HAS MAINTAINED AN ENIVIABLE STATUS AS THE EDUCATION CAPITAL OF NIGERIA UNDER HIS WATCH
BY ONADEKO TWINS
The Ogere–Remo born grassroots mobilizers and influencers, Prince Taiwo Olanrewaju Onadeko and Prince Kehinde Oladipupo Onadeko, have both asserted that it is an icing on the cake, if the good people of Ogun State and all residents, especially technocrats and artisans, re-elect Prince Dapo Abiodun for the second term.
The Omoluwabi Twins, as both fondly called by political associates and the mass electorates made this remark during an interative session with journalists in Abeokuta.
During the no-hold-barred press chat, the Transport Scientists stressed that the BUILD OUR FUTURE TOGETHER AGENDA’ of the Governor has placed the gateway state on the world map and made her a beautiful bride among the comity of states in Nigeria.
Taiwo affirmed, “the articulation and implementation of His Excellency’s agenda and the plethora of tactics employed have brought about insfrastrutural revival in the gateway state”.
While enumerating the myriads of accomplishments of the current administration in the area of works and infrastructure, Taiwo said, “in the last three and a half years, the journey of Ogun State under the probing vision of His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun towards the ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda has witnessed major and consistent progress in many areas of developments namely: infrastructures, social welfare and well being; education and Human Capital Development;Youth Empowerment, Job creation ,Agriculres and Food security, known by the acronyms, ‘ISEYA’.

Kehinde enumerated specifically, the major investments on insfrastrural strides: *”more specifically, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun has delivered standard roads construction. For instance, over 80 major roads and others (Federal roads inclusive)totalling 400km have been constructed, reconstructed and rehabilitated across the state at a record time. There is at least one road project in each of the twenty (20) Local Governments in Ogun State as I speak with you”*

“This Administration, without mincing words, in the last three years and six months has achieved more on road construction than previous administrations in Ogun State. This fact check is unprecedented. The administration has built more houses than all previous administrations, since the creation of the State in 1976,combined. The accomplisments of King’s Court Housing Estste , Prince Court Estate and Kobape Housing Estate all located in the Ogun Central Senatorial District are facts that call for re-election of His Excellency, the man of valour”
According to the much Identical Twins, “It makes a lot of sense to re-elect Prince DAPO ABIODUN so that he can complete what he have started and do more. The hands of Zerubabel has started and shall complete all these monumental projects across the State”
The Onadeko Twins, who both hold a Masters of Science degree in Transport Planning and Management , said the current administration have also raised the bar of education in the state to the next level.
According to them, “the administration of His Excellency, Prince DAPO ABIODUN has not also failed in providing opportunities for our children in the gateway state.Without a doubt, Ogun States maintains an enviable status as the Education capital of Nigeria. This assertion succintingly construed and consolidates on the legacy of unwavering investment in the sector. An instance is the renovation and construction of 956 classrooms blocks and other facilities in the public schools, including Special Needs Schools across the STATE”,
“Prince DAPO ABIODUN had ensured the provision of 25,000 tables and chairs for distribution to Public Primary and Secondary Schools. He introduced OGUN TEACH INTERVENTION PROGRAMME aimed at employing 5,000 interns to fill the Teachers-vacancies in Primary schools,Secondary schools and Technical colleges. Against all odds, he approved the clearing of backlog of promotion of 2016,2017 and also promotion of Teachers due in year 2019 and 2020 respectively”, they concluded.

The Lagos State Government has noted the hardship sparked by the Naira redesign policy, which has affected business and commercial activities.
There is no reason to reject the old notes, going by the Supreme Court judgement delivered on March 3, 2023.
The apex court declared that “no reasonable notice was given as required by Section 20(3) of the CBN Act,” noting that the public only became aware of the policy through press remarks, which cannot qualify as a notice to the public.
The court maintained that the policy has impeded the functions of State governments, pointing out that the directive that stops the use of the old notes is illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has, therefore, called on business owners, especially retailers, to accept the old N500 and N1,000 notes – in line with the Supreme Court judgement that the currency remains legal tender until December 31, 2023. It is illegal to reject the notes.
All agencies of the Lagos State Government are advised not to reject payments made with the old currency by the public.
As part of the efforts to combat problems of gridlock and wasted man-hours in Lagos, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu after his assumption into office on May 29, 2019, expressed his commitment to bring the Blue and Red Line projects to completion during his first term in office. In order to fulfil this promise and reach this milestone, our amiable governor was able to deliver this project and get it opened in December 2022, giving Lagosians a remarkable Christmas gift.
It is imperative to note that men will always make their own history in life, but they do not make it just as they please neither do they make it under circumstances chosen by themselves, but under circumstances directly encountered, given, and transmitted from the past.
In this instance, the vision of Governor Sanwo-Olu for a greater Lagos through the Lagos Blue and Red Line Rail project has resulted in the making of history at the Centre of Excellence, adding a significant step to his list of illustrious accomplishments.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the 15th governor of Lagos state has built on the legacy of his forebears in the highly sought-after position of the chief executive officer of the Centre of Excellence, creating history and breaking records in the process.
History has been made in Lagos state with the completion of the 13km electronic-powered Lagos Blue Line Rail Phase 1 Scheme (Marina to Mile 2) infrastructure, which was tested on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, and officially commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 24, 2023.
The Blue Line rail project of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit being constructed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) 27-kilometre rail route designed to run from Okokomaiko eastwards to Mile 2 and then proceed to Marina via Ijora. The 13km of Phase One of the Blue Line rail project is fully ready for operation with five stations, which are Marina, National Theatre, Orile, Suru-Alaba, and Mile 2. The Phase Two of the project is from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.
This project which is coming just exactly 120 years after the first tramway system was launched here in the city of Lagos in 1902 is expected to transport 250,000 passengers daily and, when completed, the entire 27km will transport about 500,000 passengers daily with each train comprising four coaches and each coach taking up to 180 passengers conveniently.
Given that Phase 1 of the Blue Line, which is the first segment of the network was supposed to be completed in 2011, but construction has been delayed due to a lack of funds and a change in government, there is no doubt that the start of this project’s operations last year sparked new hopes for an improved transportation experience. It is however expedient to remind us that the Lagos state government began talks with potential investors for the line’s operation and maintenance in May 2012.
Historically, the monumental idea of building a Rapid Transit System (RTS) in Lagos dated back to former Governor Lateef Jakande’s administration’s proposal of the Lagos Metroline network in 1983, as well as the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s significant reforms of the Lagos state transportation system that began in 1999 while he was the governor of the State.
In line with the aforementioned, traffic management and transportation, which is the first pillar of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s six pillars’ THEMES agenda, outlines his vision for an integrated transportation system and a multimodal transportation strategy that seamlessly brings together all the various transportation components which include road, rail, and water systems. It is therefore important to emphasise at this juncture that the fact that our working governor has accomplished so much since his assumption in office testifies to his love and enthusiasm for the socio-economic advancement of Lagos and its residents.
The governor understands that investing significantly in entrepreneurship skill development, innovation and creativity, public finance management, and human capital development is the one major way to realise the greater Lagos dream, more reason why education is also a key component of the THEMES agenda.
We have hundreds of our teachers, as well as many traders and business operators, coming from these border towns to work in Lagos, and with the completion of the Lagos Blue and Red Line Rail System, I believe that their disposable incomes and productivity will greatly increase and their stress levels drastically reduced to a bearable level. Additionally, students living near the axis will be able to commute freely and more quickly from and to their various educational institutions. As a result, this will significantly aid in the teaching and learning process and lead to better learning outcomes.
With this fantastic development and other notable initiatives to raise the standard of living for every Lagosian, Mr Sellable and our working governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu has set a remarkable record for a greater Lagos and he is undoubtedly poised to do more. I think the Lagos state government under our amiable governor deserves a resounding clapping ovation for this unprecedented achievement.
Olanrewaju Sulaiman Lanre is the founder and CEO of Equinoxcore Technology Ltd. Olanrewaju Sulyman Lanre is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Equinoxcore Technology Limited, an Indigenous information communication technology service provider established to provide cutting edge telecom services. In this exclusive interview with The Guardian he explains to our reporter how Information & Communication Technology (ICT) is relevant and important to Nigeria.
What are your responsibilities as the Chief Executive Officer of Equinoxcore Technology Limited Company?
By God’s grace, I started Equinoxcore Technology Limited about 13 years ago and as a company we have been striving hard and doing our best to improve the industry in the best way that we can. Being the head of the company, my responsibilities surpass the realm and size of the company, which makes my duty very tasking and demanding but we thank God.
What made you establish the company?
Equinoxcore Technology Limited was established out of passion of being a problem solver. At a specific time inNigeria, we were way behind our counterparts, which led me to creating a team of passionate ICT professionals with a mission to provide excellent telecom services that connect people and businesses. A sizable number of businesses and individuals can not improve on their activities without the impact of ICT in Nigeria and the World at large.
Our teams are committed to providing quality IT infrastructure and customized ICT software solutions services that exceed your expectations. We all take pride in our work and strive to be the best in everything we do. Our goal is believing in excellent service delivery, integrity and giving our clients the best service experience in the most cost-effective manner. And as things go on, we desire to be the leading telecommunication service provider with an edge of excellence, combined with the determination to provide our services with motivated and evolving personnel, thereby meeting our client’s needs efficiently and on time.
The products and services that we offer include ICT consultancy, technical site survey, network planning and maintenance, software development, hybrid power installation – such as generators, inverters, batteries, and alarm systems – health safety environment, training, turnkey processes in GSM, CDMA, WIMAX and VSAT, sales and supply of computer systems, internet and intranet (LAN and WAN), data banks and network security, CCTV installation, access control, equipment procurement, cloud hotel ERP, security dispatch system (with navigation and tracking), e-Commerce solutions and apps, complete CRM suit, call centres, and so on.
What are the problems the Nigerian ICT industry is facing?
The main problem facing ICT and almost every other sector establishment is the high cost of establishing. ICT does not include only mobile phones, televisions, hardware, software or land phones, it’s scope extends to the more complicated aspects likes robots, networks like telecoms, drones and so on. The cost of establishment is high, a good example is taking the telecommunication service companies into consideration, then you realize that these companies have several branches and masts scattered all around the country which relatively implies that they spend a lot of money. Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are really trying. There are many people that have the ideas and passion for ICT but when they consider the financial aspect, they often give up and face something else.
Insufficiency of skilled labour is another bedevilling factor. Even as Nigeria is experiencing rapid improvement in the level of computer literacy due to its inclusion into our school curriculum and the introduction of numerous computer training institutes across the nation. All these have not helped to increase the availability of computer-skilled labour. The complex and very advanced aspect of ICT like robotics has no deep root in Nigeria, partly due to the absence of related courses and required facilities in our institute of learning. While some are opportune to travel out to acquire the knowledge, there are some establishments that help their staff to broaden their knowledge and experience.
Basically, a major factor is electricity. For the ICT sector in Nigeria to witness progress wholly not only in application but also on the inventing and development aspect, electricity must be stable. It is still a shocker that Nigeria is still a country that experiences epileptic power supply till date. All the telecoms masts scattered across the country is powered heavy duty diesel generators which is not meant to be because it account for a very large budget on the company’s maintenance list.
A certain ICT firm recently claimed that it regretted that Nigeria’s low talents’ developing ideas and brain drain in the ICT sector is progressively increasing the poverty rate and decreases economic advancement.
In what ways is technology changing the operations of the ICT sector?
The back bone of ICT is technology, so both terms are considered as allies with no distinguish difference but in some ways there some technologies that are not ICT based. Technology has a pillar for several platforms has come to stay and the future depends on it.
These days ICT based on recent technology has made some things easier and smarter to achieve, like business, digital marketing, education, communication (both voice and messaging), virtual meetings and so on, all based on technological backed ICT.
What were the challenges you encountered when you started the business?
There are numerous challenges that arose when this business about to take off. One of the challenges was getting a location suitable enough to reach out to the desired and target market. Another one is getting a proper storage/warehouse space as ICT equipment needs a very good and conducive atmosphere for storage. These I remember was some of the challenges we face at inception.
What impact do you see your company making in the Information & Communication Technology sector?
When we started, it was a collective team decision to be a major player and also a game changer in the ICT sector of the country. So, our vision from on set is to get ICT products or deliverables delivered on time, putting into consideration Cost, Time, Quality, Personnel, Risk and Scope of the Project to meet our customer’s needs.
We’ve dreamt and have been able to be a leading Telecommunication Service Provider with an eye for Excellence. Our determination to provide our services with motivated and evolving qualified personnel, there by meeting our client’s needs efficiently and on time have been achieved and it is a major impact in the ICT sector.
Being an ICT broker, we are planning or should I say willing to collaborate with the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Digital Economy because we are regulation of relevant Authorities such as Nigeria Computer Society, Computer Professionals of Nigeria, British Computer Society, Institute of Information Management Africa and others.
How do you make sure you render excellent customer service?

How do you relax?
I always like to relax with my family but sometimes I do that with either my colleagues or business associates.
What’s your favourite place in the world?
Actually, I cannot tag a particular location because I like anywhere that is ICT compliant and up to date. But to mention a few, I like Finland because it is one of world’s leading countries in ICT, it is also the home to world-leading companies in a lot of ICT and digitalization sub-sectors, some among which, aim to solve global issues. Fuelled by innovation, Finland brought to the world the pioneering Nokia mobile phones, text message (SMS), the Heart Rate Monitor and the Linux operating system. In 2016, Finland is rated as the biggest contributor to global innovation in the world (ITIF).
Finland accomplishment includes mobile gaming companies such as Rovio (Angry Birds), Supercell (Clash of Clans) and Fingersoft. Wearable technologies like fitness trackers, smart contact lenses, augmented reality glasses, smart clothes, and smart fabrics. Others include Hong Kong, Tokyo, Shanghai, London, New York and many more.
What’s trending in your industry and what’s your take?
Wow! There are lots of things that are trending in the ICT sector globally, like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, Datafication, Extended Reality, 3D Printing, Genomics, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, Blockchain, Cyber Security, 5G, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Internet of Things, Smarter Devices just to mention a few.
Also, the ideas of Soft Learning, Reskill, Relearn, Unlearn Upskill, Satellite Communications, Fibre Optics, Point to Point and Point to Multi Points are very good and has good potentials for workplaces. And with help of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) all will be well.
With my personal projection, I am certain that this is the beginning for ICT as there are still going to more sophisticated technological innovations soon.
