To commemorate the 2022 United Nations International Youth Day, I organized a drug free campaign during the #carringtonyouthweek in partnership with Lagos State Youth Ambassador( Ikeja Division) at Abesan Youth Centre Alimosho Lagos which was attended by young teenagers between Age 12-19.
Substance abuse is a global issue and it’s very important to play our roles individually and collectively to put an end to the illicit use of drugs among youths in order to have a sane society.
Subtance abuse has destroyed the lives of many youths over the years and according to the 2019 world drug report released by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) some 35 million people are estimated to suffer from drug use disorder.
I must celebrate the young teenagers for being agents of change and for being part of the program. Also, I implored them to raise this awareness in their respective communities and among their friends.

The Lagos State Government, in furtherance of its resolve to create access for residents to enjoy quality healthcare, has launched its ILERA EKO Mobile Customer App, EkoTeleMed App, USSD code and voucher gateway.
Speaking at Ikeja during the launch on Thursday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said the State government is continuously making efforts via technology to promote seamless health services and easier access to quality healthcare.
The Commissioner commended the General Manager of LASHMA, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, and her team for their various innovations in making health insurance widely accepted in the State, urging Lagos residents to embrace ILERA EKO.
Prof. Abayomi said: “It is better to have health insurance in one’s pocket as you never know when you may need it. When you are sick and you use your health insurance, you will find out that you would be grateful that you have ILERA EKO health insurance. Health is expensive, whether in private hospitals or public hospitals, and the bill of modern medicine is extremely expensive”.
The Commissioner commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for transforming the medical and health infrastructure for the benefit of citizens, saying “One of the major things we are doing as a government is to provide an environment that is conducive for health professionals to practice effectively”.
LASHMA Board Member, Barr. Ayo Adebusoye, earlier in his welcome address, said that the ILERA EKO Mobile Customer App, USSD and EKOTELEMED App, would increase the uptake of health insurance in Lagos State remarkably and ensure customers have easy access and exploration of services from the comfort of their homes.
He noted that LASHMA, as the supervising agency for ILERA EKO, has been at the forefront of enrolling residents by deploying multiple channels across all Local Governments (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), emphasising the need to accelerate enrolment and deploy seamless means of registration via technology-enabled platforms.
Adebusoye pointed out that the technology platform would also provide Lagos residents with the ease of uptake of health insurance for access to the mandatory enrolment demand of the new National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
In her remarks, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba said that the newly launched ILERA EKO Customer App and EKOTELEMED App would engender a better customer experience without any visit to LASHMA offices, as subscribers would be able to use self-services from the comfort of their homes and save a lot of time.
While urging the public to enroll through the newly introduced products which have made ILERA EKO registration faster, easier and convenient for the residents, Zamba said that the ILERA EKO USSD and voucher, which were also launched alongside the mobile apps would be accessible to the informal sector, in particular, and can be accessed with the code 6700006# on any type of SIM.
The features of the USSD code, according to her, include registration of users, the addition of dependents, premium payments, policy information confirmation and previous payment details, among others.
The General Manager listed some of the benefits of the App as cost-effectiveness, ease of enrollment, easy access to policy information and payments as well as guaranteed cash rewards on policies purchased.
She disclosed that ILERA EKO Mascot Drive would be introduced to schools in order to include the younger ones in the overhaul of health management in Lagos State.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms. Olayinka Fashola, said that the State is revamping the business of governance with technology.
She, therefore, implored everyone to sign up for the Apps, saying it will benefit residents in the area of health and general wellbeing.
Dignitaries present at the event include members of the State’s Body of Permanent Secretaries, LASHMA Board Members, Chief Medical Director, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Adetokunbo Fabanwo; representative of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Nigeria Country Office, Bukunmi Ajeyigbe; LASHMA partners, Trade Union Congress and business stakeholders among others.

If you have any complain in your area that you want us to attend to, kindly write to the Ministry of Environment office of Drainage Services, and ensure you write your contact details there because they are lots of letters that people submit which there is no way we can reach them.” she added
Tpl. Fashola the Zonal Head of Ikorodu North and Imota he also buttress the point of building houses on erosion, and the Hon. Commissioner has gave them the directive to visit the affected areas and all these houses are built on the land meant for drainage, all these are the causes of house collapse.
He also said “We have some people that bought just one plot of land which they are supposed to just built within the size of what they bought, but they will expand it on the space that is meant of drainage, we also have some sets of people that go through the backdoor policy to get approval from the Government in order to build their house, just know that in the nearest future the Government are coming to demolish it, let’s ensure we do everything in the right way and we should not acquire land that is meant for erosion.” He concluded

Luqman Olatunji Orelope was born on the 12th of August, 1972 into the noble and famous family of Alhaji Jimoh Akanbi Laka Orelope (a.k.a Baba Orelope).
Luqman’s father,Pa Jimoh Laka Orelope, was a farmer, business man, foremost politician and a great philanthropist before his demise. The name Orelope then was and now is still synonymous with Lagos and Alimosho Politics and continues to reverberate across the length and breadth of Lagos State and beyond. History has it that Baba Orelope’s house usually hosted critical State Leaders meeting under the Leadership of Alhaji Jakande.
It’s on record that Luqman was the young boy then who was always in the company of Baba Orelope whenever he went for political activities. A fact Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu recalled while Luqman was being presented to him.
Luqman is an unassuming politician who has been part and parcel of Alimosho political evolution in different ways and at different times without making so much noise about it. Small wonder the young Orelope political foray (Over the years) can be situated in his determination to push further the good path Baba Orelope left behind.
Luqman is an indigene of Idimu/Egbeda (Awori) Lagos State and had served his state meritoriously at local government level not only as Chairman Executive Committee on PSP,Chairman Executive Committee on Transportation but also, as the Secretary (SLG), Alimosho Local Government.
Luqman, the Scion of Orelope’s Political Dynasty is a business man and a public administrator who cares so much about individuals without prejudice to their background. No wonder he’s at home with the Hausa and Igbo Communities not to talk of the old and young.
Luqman, a graduate of University of Lagos with BSc in Public Administration had his elementary education at Ore – Ofe Primary School, Dopemu Agege, and his secondary education at Oniwaya High School,Dopemu Agege.
The young Orelope, (a passionate footballer and sport enthusiast who has just turned 50) is offering himself to serve the good people of Alimosho Constituency’01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly in the 2023 general election.
One cannot but wish him the best while he too can’t hide his excitement at counting on the support of well meaning party members and unalloyed support of the general public in the coming days on his journey to become the Hon. Member in the Lagos State Legislature
Warm and Best Regards on this Golden Occassion to Hon.Luqman Orelope, The APC Candidate Alimosho Constituency 01.
