The Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries and the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA has mourned the death of Mr Omotayo Sanyaolu, a former Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lagos State chapter and the Senior Special Assistant on Tertiary Education, Youth and Student Affairs to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu.

Abiru, in a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by his media aide, Mr. Enitan Olukotun described the Late Sanyaolu as a resourceful youth who displayed exemplary leadership in the various assignments he was saddled with. The lawmaker said his death was a personal loss considering the crucial role the deceased played during his by-election in 2020.

While condoling the immediate family of deceased, the governor Lagos State , Lagos APC , political associates and friends , Senator Abiru prayed that God Almighty gives the departed eternal rest and grants fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“I commiserate with the family, the governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu, the Lagos APC on the painful death of Mr Omotayo Sanya-olu, the immediate past Lagos APC Youth leader and aide to the governor.

“Tayo was a vibrant and energetic Youth leader and great mobilizer. The death is a personal loss to me in view of the close interactions I had with him when he was alive, especially during my Senatorial Bye-election in 2020. He played a crucial role alongside other dedicated members of our great party which culminated in a resounding electoral victory”, Abiru was quoted in the statement.

With a saddened heart, on behalf of #Nottooyoungtoorun Lagos Movement, We, at #Nottooyoungtoorun Lagos State Chapter condole with the government of Lagos state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Ministry of Youth and Social Development and all youth groups in Lagos State over the sudden demise of Mr. Omotayo Sanyaolu, the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the governor on Tertiary Education, Youth and Student Affairs, who passed away at an early hour in a mischief motor accident on Friday, July 29th, 2022.

The death of our dear friend and brother came as a rude shock to us.

Mr. Omotayo Sanyaolu was a friend to all youths, and he worked tirelessly to ensure youth participation in the government affairs. He was a promising young man who dedicated all his life for youth programs and youth inclusiveness in governance and politics. He sacrificed so much for their well-being and humanitarian services across Lagos State.

For the last few years, Omotayo Sanyaolu has been a supporter of the movement on some of our agitations and programs.

Omotayo Sanyaolu, you will be greatly missed. You are just like a candle in the wind.

However, our sincerest condolences to the Lagos State Government and to the entire Sanyaolu family.

We wish you peace, comfort, courage, and lots of love at this time of sorrow. Our hearts go out to you at this difficult time.

It is often hard to find the right words at a time like this.

Rest in peace, Omotayo Sanyaolu, our dear brother and friend. You will be greatly missed.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Hon. Tayo Sanyaolu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tertiary Education. On behalf of Lagos Division Youth, my team and I send our deepest condolences to Brother Tayo’s family and the entire youth in Lagos at this difficult time. The world mourns with you and celebrates the extraordinary life of this remarkable man of value who devoted his life to nation building through youth empowerment.

His significant contribution made to tertiary education in Lagos State is evidence of his effectiveness of organizing a forward-thinking generation and supporting student unions with strong representation and egalitarianism.
 
Due to his diligent work, Hon. Tayo not only received several renowned accolades but also the esteem of millions of young people who were moved by his dedication to capacity building, liberal governance, and civic participation.

So, despite our sorrow and pain, I hope Sanyaolu’s loved ones will understand that his work did not end with his death but rather that his spirit will continue to live on through the daily deeds of the tens of thousands of young people who are now carrying on his struggle to build a more sustainable Nation.

May the Almighty God grant his soul external peace and pardon his sins.

Teachers in secondary schools in the Lagos East Senatorial District who had successfully completed training in modern inquiry based teaching techniques and secondary school students who had completed training in physical computing as part of their Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum respectively at the Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL) graduated in Lagos on Friday.

Dignitaries, including the Honourable commissioner for Education in Lagos State, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo commended the Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries and the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA on the SAIL project.

In his welcome address, Abiru who was elated by the impact the SAIL programmes had on participants said he was executing the mandate entrusted to him under three pillars, namely; Legislative Role, Empowerment / Facilitation and Endowment. According to him the SAIL project which is an initiative of his foundation, Tokunbo Abiru Constituency Team (TACT) Foundation is under his endowment pillar.

Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL), is a first-of-its-kind innovation space in Lagos East Senatorial District, set up in partnership with a renowned technology and Social Enterprise company, The Co-creation Hub (Cc-HUB) in Lagos to train youths in the senatorial district on relevant digital and innovation skills, and build the best entrepreneurs that can compete in the ever-dynamic global economy, Mr Enitan Olukotun, the media aide to Senator Abiru stated.

Abiru said, “I am happy to report that in the last 19 months that I have been given the mandate to represent the people of Lagos East, I have been able to live up to expectations in the roles that I have set up for myself ‘’, adding that ‘the motivation behind this initiative among others is to further fulfil the sacred commitment with the people to deliver dividends and to truly champion programmes, Interventions and services that will improve the socio-economic conditions of our people’’.

Speaking further on graduating participants of the STEM programme, the Senator said, “Today, Secondary school students who are between the ages of 13 and 18 who are graduating have learnt about physical computing using Arduino and coding to develop various solutions to human problems. This is how Asian tigers pulled up and became one of the most technologically developed nations in the world.



In the last 4 months, these kids have been kept busy and creative. The learning process has been most engaging and highly practical. They will be showcasing five (5) unique projects today which they have developed by themselves for the benefits of mankind”.

Abiru, a former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance and retired bank Chief Executive said there is an urgent need to develop the interest of teenagers in production of tech-enabled devices, tools and gadgets that can aid the swift development of our industries in Nigeria.
He said, “What we are doing today is preparing these young ones for the opportunity in the future. The jobs and economic opportunities of tomorrow will largely be defined by digital innovation and technology.

“It is interesting to know that some of their colleagues are already working for major corporations in the world while still in schools here in Nigeria. I interfaced with some of these young tech gurus recently in Gbagada at the GenZ Techies Event where SAIL was the Title Sponsor. Young folks numbering almost 1,000 defied heavy downpour to discuss technology and network within their ecosystem.

‘’I met young CEOs in their teens who already have profitable tech businesses and employ dozens of people in the United States and other parts of the country’’.

Teachers, numbering about 50 who made it to the SAIL physical class, while 350 attended the on-line class, also shared life transforming experiences at SAIL.

The teachers are from both public and private schools (STEM & Non STEM teachers) selected from all over Lagos East, covering Lagos Education District 2 & 3.

Senator Abiru disclosed that the skill sets of the teachers have been greatly upscaled with the Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) which is currently being adopted globally for training students creatively, especially with the use of technology to make their teachings more effective and efficient.

Lagos State Commissioner for Education , Mrs Adefisayo who hailed the unique approach of the distinguished Senator to development said technology should be included in the school curriculum. She added that the SAIL Teachers Fellowship will have a great impact on many generations.

Mr Olatunbosun Alake, the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Innovation and Technology commended Senator Abiru for placing a premium on the human capital development, noting that the value of a trained mind can never be estimated.

He urged other elected public office holders to take a cue from Senator Abiru and champion programmes that will have lasting impacts on the lives of the people. ‘We need to geometrically multiply what Senator Abiru is doing across the nation”, the governor’s aide said.

Road Inspection

On Monday 23th of August, 2021, Hon. Princess Basirat Adetutu Banjoko went on a road inspection of all roads under construction in her ward; awarded by the Lagos State Government, this was done to be sure that contractors/engineers are doing their works as supposed.

Donation of School Uniform

October 18, 2021 Princess Basirat Adetutu Banjoko donates school uniforms to students of Methodist primary school and Ansar udeen primary school in her ward.

March 19, 2022 she visited the newly accredited special unit by Lagos State primaries at Methodist Primary School, Igbogbo.

Methodist Primary School is at present the only Primary School in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA that has the approval of the State Government to create special class for special pupils.

The Princess however is an integral part of the special unit’s establishment and smooth running.

As part of her commitments, Honorable Princess provided school uniform for the first set of the special pupils.

Friday, 8th of July, 2022, Hon. Princess Basirat Adetutu Banjoko inspects the commencement of Lajo Primary school’s perimeter fencing’s building which she facilitates through the LCDA Boss, Builder Sesan Daini.

2023 Elections: LASG takes PVC sensitization campaign to LASU, LASUED ~Ajasa-Info

As the 2023 general elections draw closer, the Lagos State Government has taken its on- going residents sensitization programme on Permanent Voters Card (PVC) registration and collection to the Lagos State University, Ojo and Lagos State University of Education, Ijanikin, where the students were urged to join hands with Government in building a new Nigeria.


The State Government overnment noted that registration and collection of Permanent Voters Card is a guaranteed license for participating in the nation’s electoral process, urging them to go out and register for their PVCs or pick them up from the INEC office if they have registered before.


The Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo –Olu on Education, Tokunbo Wahab who led top government officials to LASU yesterday to sensitize the students, stressed the need for more students’ participation in the electoral process and task of nation building.
According to him, since youths/ students represent about 53.5% of the total population of the country, there is the need to carry them along and give them adequate orientation and enlightenment on leadership role and the need to participate in the electoral process towards choosing a God fearing leader that is committed to infrastructure development and good governance.


The sensitization programme which was at the instance of the Office of the Special Adviser on Education (OSAE) in conjunction with the Students Union Governments (SUG) of both the Lagos State University (LASU) and Lagos State University of Education ( LASUED) Ijanikin Campus have large turn- out of students who turned the sensitization programme into a carnival like across all Faculties and Departments of the Universities.
Wahab who commended the Managements of the two institutions, (LASU and LASUED) for maintaining absolute peace on their campuses, promised that the State government would not relent in implementing policies that would prioritize the welfare of both students and staff of all the State owned institutions, while he commended them for not joining the on- going Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike in appreciation of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s sustainable educational development policies in the State.


The Special Adviser charged the students to take advantage of bringing registration centres to their campuses to register and collect their PVCs, noting that their PVC is the major weapon with which they can fight hunger and poverty while it could be used as well to sustain good governance.

In her remarks, the Ag. Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Education, LASUED, Ijanikin Campus, Professor Bidemi Bilikis Lafiaji-Okuneye stated that the sensitization of students for PVC collection is a welcome development as it would give them the opportunity to perform their civic responsibility as citizens o the country.
Professor Lafiaji-Okuneye commended INEC for bringing registration centres to the two campuses, which she noted would help students to have easy access to registration.
In the same way, the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on students Affairs and Tertiary Education Matters, Mr Omotayo Sanya Olu said the sensitization programme is one of the Governor Sanwo-Olu administration’s efforts at carrying the youths along in crucial matters that have direct effect on their developments.


Sanyaolu who urged the students to make effective use of the exercise to register and obtain their PVCs reminded that with their PVCs, they have been given the power to decide who should be their leaders.
While assuring that the All Progressives Party in Lagos State under Samwo-Olu would continue to place youths at the centre of its development programmes, urged them to continue to support the State government and keep campuses peaceful for improved and better development.


In his response, President of LASU Students’ Union, Adeoye Moses, a 400 Level student of Theatre Arts Department, commended students of LASU for coming out in large number to register for their PVC, adding that LASU students were always at alert when it comes to progressive development, adding that the SUG under his care would ensure that his colleagues fully participate in all future elections in the country to bring about good government.


He commended the State government for upgrading LASU infrastructure and creating enabling environment for research Developments, noting that LASU under Sanwo-Olu has remained one of the best in the country in academic and moral excellences.

LASWA has integrated with many other agencies such as Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), and a host of others; together achieving the full range of multiple missions.

The Lagos State Government has upgraded its ferry fleet with new engines acquisition in its determination to boost Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) efficiency as functional alternative to decongest road traffic and effectively address okada menace.

The Managing Director, LAGFERRY, Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun while taking delivery of the new engines expressed satisfaction and confidence that the new engines will ensure optimal performance of their boats and provide passengers with comfort, safety and commuting satisfaction.

Babajimi Benson tour some of his facilitated projects in Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the early hours of Saturday, his first stop was Agbala/Eyita roads, 11 roads linking some parts of Ikorodu Central and Ikorodu North LCDA. They are; Oshin-Ladega Street, Agbala, Amudat Jokomba Street, Olokunola Street, Oladunjoye Oriola Street ( Better food), Oguntuga Street, Igbeyin Adun Street, Olaore Oshikoya Street, Ayodele Ayeni Street, Giwa Efugbotu Street and Adeyiga Street (Benson Estate linking Munirat Aleje and Benson bus stop).
