SANWO-OLU SWEARS IN 14 NEW JUDGES, REITERATES COMMITMENT TO JUDICIARY ~Ajasa-Info

•We’ll make Lagos Judiciary proud, discharge our duty without fear, favour or affection, say New Judges

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday swore-in 14 new Judges of the State High Court to strengthen the judiciary, by increasing the current number of Judges to 70.

The Governor told the new Judges that all eyes would be on them to dispense justice speedily, fairly and impartially, while also living above board in all circumstances.

The new benchers consisting of nine females and five males are; Justices Olubusola Adeyemi Okunuga, Adenrera Olayinka Adeyemi, Olufolake Olufolasade Oshin, Oluwatoyin Atinuke Odusanya, Olumuyiwa Oluseun Martins, Ariyike Mutiat Ipaye-Nwachukwu and Babatunde Oladapo Kalaro.

Others are Omolade Jadesola Awope, Akinkunmi Olusegun Idowu, Olalekan Ayodeji Oresanya, Mujibat Iyabode Oshodi, Ismail Olalekan Ijelu, Mosunmola Muyibat Balogun and Mathias Oluwole Dawodu.

Speaking during the swearing-in of the 14 new Judges at the Lagos House Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the judicial arm of government is an essential element for the proper and effective functioning of any democratic society, noting that without the honest interpretation and application of the laws of the land, society would be open to chaos.

He said his administration remains committed to supporting the judiciary to fully discharge its constitutional functions and responsibilities, adding that his government is greatly fortunate to be an inheritor of a great tradition of judicial reforms and excellence in Lagos State.

“The standards of behaviour and practice expected of Judges are among the highest and most stringent in the land. All eyes will be on you to dispense Justice speedily, yet fairly and impartially. You will be expected to live and act above board in all circumstances.

“In your hands lies great power: the power to punish wrongdoers and free the innocent, the power to send a strong message to society about the supremacy of the rule of law, and to contribute to the growing body of jurisprudence in the country.

“This power must be wielded with the utmost sense of care and responsibility. You must not only be efficient and fair but you must also be seen to be efficient and fair by all,” the governor advised.

While urging the Judges to be committed to their constitutional duties, Governor Sanwo-Olu said: “Judges who take their work seriously can do a lot to rebuild the confidence of citizens in the systems and institutions of our nation. A properly functioning judicial system will also go a long way in nurturing an environment that enables business and investment, and by extension, economic growth, and prosperity. When society prospers, there is less room for poverty to drive people to crime and criminality.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that his administration had commenced the full digitisation of courts to ensure speedy administration of justice and therefore charged the new Judges to make every effort to acquaint themselves with the ongoing reforms being pursued at sub-national and federal levels; be enthusiastic about their use of new technologies and strive to always be forward-looking and innovative in their thinking.

He said: “We have now commenced the full digitisation of our Courts’ system in Lagos State. The first phase, comprising 10 Courtrooms, is nearing completion. This digitisation will help speed up court processes, enable the easy documentation and publication of accurate court transcripts, and also provide high-speed internet access for the use of Judges and other judicial personnel.

“Also, very importantly, we are deploying infrastructure to enable the virtual hearing of cases. This is one of the reforms whose necessity has been accelerated by the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic. We are all witnesses to how the lock downs and restrictions occasioned by Covid-19 negatively impacted the administration of criminal justice.

“Technology has offered a way out, and we are enthusiastically embracing this option. With the infrastructure we are putting in place, Judges will be able to sit virtually, ensuring that there are no delays, while also helping manage the costs that traditionally went into ensuring that suspects are conveyed to and from Courts.

“In addition to the pandemic, last year’s wave of arson and destruction that targeted critical government facilities, including our Courts, also demonstrated to us the importance of quickly transitioning from manual recording systems to digital ones, which allow for easier and more secure storage of documents and records.”

The Governor also commended the National Judicial Service Commission for adding to the list of 12 prospective Judges earlier sent.

Speaking earlier, Lagos State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) said the appointment of the new Judges was necessitated by the retirement of some Judges in the course of the year.

In his remarks, the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Kazeem Alogba advised the new benchers whom he said were chosen based on merit to operate with the fear of God.

“You are welcome to the judiciary of excellence. It is a family of integrity and a family of discipline. You have all been called up to duty on merit and integrity, please do not disappoint us,” he appealed to the new Judges.

Justice Alogba also advised the families of the new Judges to leave them to work and to continue to pray for them so that they would not falter.

Speaking on behalf of the new 14 Judges, Justice Olubusola Okunuga appreciated the State Government for the confidence reposed in them and promised that they would make Lagos State Judiciary proud by discharging their duty without fear, favour or affection.

Itunnu: Father Rejects Autopsy Report, asks for FG support ~Ajasa-Info

Mr Emmanuel Babalola, father of late Itunnu Babalola, a.k.a Bekky Paul, who was wrongfully jailed and died in Cote d’Ivoire prison, has formally rejected the autopsy report carried out on the body of his 24-year-old daughter.

The apparently worried father made his opinion known when he paid a thank- you visit on the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa in her Lagos office.

He said the autopsy report which was written in French did not reflect the true situation of the cause of death of Itunnu.

Babalola, who wept uncontrollably, said he got somebody who interpreted some aspects of it to him, and expressed dissatisfaction with the result of the post mortem test.

“My daughter was framed up and was wrongfully jailed. It is painful that they lied against her after breaking into her apartment and stole her property. But it is even disheartening that she died mysteriously in prison after the intervention of your Commission when she was about to be freed.

“I don’t believe that she died of natural cause. I spoke with her on Wednesday in good health condition, how come she died two days later vomiting blood and claiming it was ” sepsis complicated by acute respiratory distress”. This is unacceptable.

“That is why am here to thank you for all you have done for me on her and through you appealing for justice for my late daughter.

Babalola reiterated his call on the Federal Government to ensure that his daughter’s name was cleared of the allegation and make sure that those who framed her up as well as those responsible for her death were brought to justice.

He stressed that while in prison, his daughter complained of poor treatment while in the custody of the Ivorian Government. She was poorly looked after and suffered from health complications. Her health deteriorated so bad that she had to be admitted to military hospital. She unfortunately died under mysterious circumstances, days after she was admitted to the hospital.

She told me how they took her to hinterland prison from the Cote d’Ivoire Capital Abidjan, a journey of about five hours, and imprisoned her there in order to discourage those championing the case as well as frustrating the cause of justice.

Responding, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa condoled with the Babalola family again and assured the father that the matter would not be allowed to go away like that.

At the solemn occasion , the NIDCOM boss who confirmed that the autopsy said Itunu died of “ sepsis complicated by acute respiratory distress” said the autopsy indeed left a lot of doubts because there are gaps in the medical report which calls for more investigation.

The NIDCOM Chairman also insisted that the Ivorian Police man, the DPO, implicated in the Itunnu’s frame up has questions to answer.

Dabiri-Erewa said that some group of lawyers have indicated their willingness to take the matter up with the ECOWAS court to seek justice for Itunnu.

On behalf of the Commission, she provided some financial support for the family to cushion the effects of losing a breadwinner.

Itunnu died on Nov. 14 at Ivorian military hospital and was buried on Dec. 4 at Sango cemetery in Ibadan at the age of 24.

She had been wrongly and unjustly convicted of human trafficking , sentenced to 20 years imprisonment , which was later reduced to 10 years.

She had served two out of the 10 years sentence before the father raised an alarm on behalf of his daughter .

The Nigerian High Commission in Côte d’Ivoire immediately employed the services of a lawyer to appeal the judgment, got the case transferred to Abidjan and the lawyer was on the last lap of finalising the appeal before her sudden death in prison.

ABIODUN YINUSA: CELEBRATING AN UNREPENTANT TINUBUIST ON HIS BIRTHDAY BY ADEBOYE ADEBAYO ~Ajasa-Info

Birthday is a momentous occasion, an anniversary of the day on which one is born. It is a day to reminisce the chance life gave one to commence a duty. It is also an important moment to celebrate the joy of being alive, and these celebrations consistently accumulate to form a cluster of sweet memories.

Age is indeed a number but life is certainly a battle and for Abiodun Yinusa whose birthday climaxed with that of our Lord Jesus Christ on a day like this 25th December, with his high level of commitment towards Nigeria’s Democratic system and progressive politics in Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s camp, then life is not only a battle, it is a full blown war. He has been striving to live his life like that of Jesus Christ whose birth and living on earth symbolise peace, love, humanity, progress, harmony, selflessness and touching lives.

As an ardent supporter of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Abbey as he is fondly called by his admirers, has always put his life online to support his course at every point in time.

Since he joined Tinubu’s Progressive Camp & Political School of Thought, he has never looked back for one bit as a blind follower of the Jaban of Africa, for Abbey, Tinubu can never be wrong.

Abiodun Yinusa is a man that follows his heart on all issues he believes in, he follows Tinubu’s footsteps and make sure Tinubu’s instructions, decisions or directions are followed and implemented to letters either he is directly or indirectly involved in carrying out such.

His support and contributions to the emergence of Former Governors Babatunde Raji Fashola & Akinwumi Ambode and Current Governor Babajide Sanwoolu of Lagos State cannot be overemphasized. He mobilised, canvassed and spent fortune to actualise Tinubu’s and our Party’s decisions on them before, during and after their polls and currently, the role Abbey is playing in stabilising Babajide Sanwoolu’s government in Lagos especially in the area youthful unrest and exuberance is enormous, all because Tinubu’s camp must succeed.

As 2023 is gathering momentum, Abbey is at the forefront in the course to drag Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu into the Presidential race in Nigeria, he believes so much in Tinubu’s capacity to build successfully on the foundation being laid by President Mohammodu Buhari after the People’s Democratic Party, PDP has destroyed and reduced to rubbles, the sociopolitical and economy infrastructure of Nigeria.

For Abbey, Tinubu is God Sent to human race in general to liberate and salvage them from the economic backwardness and ruins of poverty that is ravaging the country as a situation of persistent Insecurity and economic recession as a result of unexpected pandemic ravaging the World.

Abbey believes so much in the capacities of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to change the economy of Nigeria going by the abundant opportunities that abound in the country by creating sustainable wealth, enabling environment that Nigerians need, to create sustainable jobs for themselves and make them, especially the youths that constitute largest part of the country’s population to be self reliant and do away with thuggery, drug addiction, uncivilized way of life, banditry and terrorism.

Abbey believes that what Bola Ahmed Tinubu did he Lagos State where he revived its economy by re-engineering its financial sector, built infrastructure and laid template for sustainable growth and development can be replicated in Nigeria, it is on the record that Tinubu’s unique strategies in Lagos put the state in a comfortable position as one of the best economy in the World.

Abbey is mobilising, canvassing and educating Nigerians on the reasons why Tinubu is the best man for that tasky top job.

As Abiodun Yinusa is celebrating his birthday today, 25th December, on behalf of the entire National Executive Council and members of Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation, AGF, through our able Secretary; Alhaji Ali Balogun, I join his wife, children, friends, well wishers and associates to wish our formidable Partner in progress in Tinubu’s camp, a happy birthday and to thank him for his service to our country in general, Lagos State and Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Political Camp in Particular. I say, You are an inspiration to us and I hope you have many more years to keep up the good work. Thank you for your brave and fearless leadership. I hope that you will have a day of joy and rest on your birthday.
