SANWO-OLU TO FLAG OFF ETI-OSA-LEKKI-EPE EXPRESSWAY PROJECT ~Ajasa-Info

A new motoring experience is on the way on the Eti-Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway with the Lagos State Government’s plan to rebuild the major road. The flag-off of the reconstruction and upgrade of the important road is Sunday, November 1, 2020.

Speaking during an inspection of the road earlier today, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Aramide Adeyoye, said that despite the economic recession, dwindling financial resources occasioned by the COVID 19 pandemic and the most recent unwarranted violence unleashed on government infrastructure, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains focused on promoting economic prosperity through the provision of sustainable road infrastructure throughout the State.

Mrs. Adeyoye said Governor Sanwo-Olu will flag off the project and reconstruction will begin on the first phase of the 18.75km stretch spanning Eleko Junction to Epe ‘T Junction’.

“Aside the fact that the Lekki-Epe Expressway project, when completed, will eliminate the perennial traffic gridlocks, it would ultimately improve socio-economic activities in and around Lekki and reduce drastically the travel time of commuters,” the Special Adviser said.

She asserted that other attendant benefits of the laudable project include the positive impact it would have on the lives of residents, businesses, commuters and Lagosians at large.

The Eti Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway was constructed over 40 years ago, from Victoria Island to Epe T-junction. The builders adopted a rural road cross-section without drainage, except for chutes provided at intervals to allow water percolate into the soil along the verges.

Explaining that the deterioration of the road disrupted the movement of goods and passengers until palliative intervention was carried out by the Sanwo-Olu administration in November 2019, Mrs. Adeyoye said that the reconstruction will entail an upgrade in both capacity and pavement structure, with an increase from a two to three-lane dual-carriageway and a dedicated truck lane plus reinforced concrete rigid pavement.

The Project, which is programmed for two phases to manage the huge financial outlay required for the project, takes cognisance of the rapid industrialisation envisaged along the Lekki axis. The first phase will span 18.75km from Eleko Junction – Epe T-junction while the second phase of 26.7km will start at Abraham Adesanya Roundabout to Eleko Junction.

The project will be handled by Messrs. Craneburg Construction Company Limited which has proven capacity and track record in the delivery of quality road projects. When completed, the infrastructure will complement the network of roads in Epe and ease transportation of goods and services to other neighbouring States.

LASTMA RESTATES COMMITMENT TO TRAFFIC CONTROL IN LAGOS ~Ajasa-Info

The General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olajide Oduyoye has reaffirmed the commitment of its personnel to traffic control across the State, saying the temporary withdrawal of officers resulted from the arson, killings and violence that trailed the #EndSARS protests.

Oduyoye revealed that 12 LASTMA zonal offices were destroyed during the mayhem while officers were attacked at various locations and, therefore, the Agency’s operational efficiency and logistics were disrupted.

He stated that despite the temporary setback, LASTMA has taken stock, re-strategised and its officers have resumed their duties at intersections and junctions across the metropolis.

While assuring members of the public of the Agency’s commitment to ensuring free traffic flow on all roads in Lagos State, Oduyoye thanked LASTMA officials for their cooperation, dedication and efforts on effective traffic management across the metropolis.

Speaking on a recent story being circulated on social media, Oduyoye debunked the report which alleged that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed the officers of the Agency not to arrest any motorist who contravenes the Lagos State Traffic Law.

The General Manager pointed out that the false news story had made the rounds on the social media on previous occasions, adding that the company that generated the initial fake report had apologised, retracted and pulled down the news from its website earlier in the year.

He reiterated that “The primary duties of the Agency is traffic control and the arrest of recalcitrant drivers as stated in the Law that established the agency. The Law was later reviewed by the Lagos State House of Assembly in year 2018, with that of the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service. It is, therefore, logical that the Governor, who is the number one law-abiding citizen and law enforcement officer in the State, would not flout the law through such pronouncement”.

“I must implore all law-abiding citizens of Lagos State, especially motorists, to adhere strictly to the traffic law of the State in order not to run afoul of the law which has consequences. We must all have positive attitudes towards obeying the Laws of the State which were made to ensure orderliness and fast-paced socio-economic improvement of individuals, corporate entities and generality of the people”, he added.

-To Pay 40,000 Monthly Stipend to Interns

As part of efforts to reduce the rate of unemployment in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved Internship Programme for 4,000 unemployed graduates in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the present administration and the Youth Development Programme of the State.

Speaking recently on the programme with newsmen, the Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, said the Graduate Internship Placement Programme (GIPP) is designed to give candidates the opportunity to develop employability and work-ready skills that are needed in securing gainful employment.

She added that the Internship Programme will be addressing the third and fourth pillars of the present administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda, which are Education and Technology and Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, while the beneficiaries will be paid a monthly stipend of N40,000 for the six months duration of the internship.

Arobieke informed that at the end of the internship period, interns would have gained valuable applied work experience, built up their professional skills and would have been exposed to possible entrepreneurial opportunities to strengthen their professional skills and interpersonal relationship.

The Commissioner, therefore, implored interested candidates to apply through the dedicated link for the programme: gipplasg.lagosstate.gov.ng, stressing that interested applicants must possess NYSC Certificates or letters of exemption, and must be registered residents of the State with Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, LASRRA.

While informing that over 50 off-takers have shown interest in having the Interns work in their organisations, Arobieke maintained that the selection process will be transparent as successful candidates after taking an online test will be trained on employability skills for two weeks and evaluated; they will, subsequently, be placed on six months paid Internship with Private organisations and selected Public Agencies in line with their qualifications.

#EndSARS: Oluwo Calls for Inclusion of Traditional Rulers Into Panel of Inquiry ~Ajasa-Info

Oluwo of Iwoland, HIM Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has called on the federal and state governments to include resourceful traditional rulers into the panel of inquiries on police brutality through out the nation.

In his appeal, Oba Akanbi said, aside police stations, responsible palaces are always primary points of contact at any security threat or security brutality, calling on the government to incorporate responsible monarchs into the panel of inquiries.

He stated doing so will keep traditional rulers abreast of security issues and equally facilitate effective mediation where needed.

Oluwo disclosed some panels constituted in some states were without traditional ruler, asking the government to consider their traditional input most especially as it relates to security matter.

He said security is one of the primary duties of every responsible monarch. He pointed monarchs are actors in the ongoing struggle and must be given necessary assignment to constructive address the angers of Nigerian youths at this critical time.

He related the place of monarchs in community affairs invited the attacks on some palaces at the heat of the protest, as he hopes to see institution of traditional rulers in addressing the challenge.

A statement by the Oluwo’s press secretary,Alli Ibraheem, reads “Palaces were part of the target of most EndSARS protesters because of our place in securing our community and managing crisis. Aside police stations, one other primary point if contact are responsible palaces. At this critical time, monarchs input are of immense value. We were seriously affected at the heat of endsars protests and police brutality. The youth expected much from us because the victims were our children”

“I want to appeal to both the federal and state governments to include resourceful traditional rulers into their respective panel of inquiry. We stand to gain nothing than to entrust justice and have security information that will help us more in assisting the government on security. We are always ready to make our contribution and must not left out at this fragile moment of modern and traditional government leadership challenge. The government at all levels should consider incorporation of virile traditional rulers into the various panel of inquiry”

“The two palaces destroyed by the angry youth were testimonies that monarchs are part of security actors. I will equally appeal to government to strengthen traditional rulers with security vote. Much more would have been done should we have access to such”

Akanbi Ade Saheed: Solidarity greetings to you at this crucial time ~Ajasa-Info

DEAR LAGOS YOUTH,

There is no denial that our voice was not only heard vociferously, but the most vocal in the campaign against Police brutality, #EndSARS and the call for Nigeria police reforms in its entirety, before the unscrupulous ones leveraged our universally supported just cause to carry out their heinous acts of looting, arson, robbery, maiming, jailbreak, killing and other condemnable criminal acts.

It will be an understatement by just describing the struggle as a big success before the highjack without mentioning the well coordinated pattern, peaceful demonstration, unity, the indivisible alutaristic spirit adopted, and massive support (home and abroad) that characterized the #EndSARS protest across board, and particularly the Lekki Toll Gate spot before the intrusion of yet to be identified soldiers. Our sincere condolences go to those who lost loved ones in all parts of the country including the security agents.
May their souls rest in peace (Amen). They are the heroes and heroines of the successes achieved so far.

However, I beseech us to pick solace on the assurance from our dear Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu that perpetrators will be brought to book. This has been demonstrated by the constitution of the judicial panel of inquiry which includes three people from our constituency (The Youth) namely; *Rinu Oduala, Majekodunmi Temitope and Lucas Koyejo.

The committee has begun sitting, which will run on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 10am-4pm at the Lagos Court of Arbitration, 1A Remi Olowude Street, Maruwa Round about, Lekki Epe Expressway, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

We are all enjoined to furnish the committee with necessary information that will assist them in serving us justice at the end of their duties and for the sake of the fallen heroes and ultimately foreclose the #EndSARS* Struggle.

On the part Government, as exhibited in the appointment made so far which is a distant departure from the past where young people now forms the fulcrum of this administration. The youth friendly Governor of Lagos State has taken the concerns and agitations of youth beyond the #EndSARS crises, and with the complementary effort of ministry of youth and social Development led by the experienced and expertise of the current Commissioner for Youth with series of engaging/appealing initiatives and programs where youth complains, agitations and grieviances can be channelled without resorting to crises.

The SSA on Youth Development, Lagos State who is barely one month in office sees the recent development as a wake up call and has highlighted a series of initiatives that will robustly engage and involve the youth in business of governance and consequently eliminate or reduce youth agitations.

Some of these initiatives which will be forwarded to the Governor through the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development includes;

✅ The compulsory inclusion of Youth Leader/ Representative in the monthly Peace and Security meeting at the local government and state level as a critical stakeholder to give the young people the opportunity to contribute and ventilate their grouses, complains, grievances rather than resorting to protest, unrest or crises.

✅ Institutionalizing and financing of monthly or quarterly youth dialogue within the local government comprises of all ward youth leaders, religious youth leaders, communities youth leaders, e.t.c with the Supervisor for Youth of the local government in compulsory attendance to collate the complains and contributions of young people and report it at Local Government Executive Council Meeting. And same at the state level.

✅ Publicity of the Local Government Executive Council meeting. Same at the state level.

✅ Creation of the department of Youth Affairs at local government level just as the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) department at the local government level.

✅ Return of the annual subvention to verified Voluntary Youth Group and NYCN.

✅ Increase in the appointment and election of young people into political offices.

As the state of excellence and economic nerve centre of the nation and West Africa, Youth engagement and inclusion is not only central but in concomitant to the T.H.E.M.E agenda of the Governor Babajide Sanwoolu’s administration as exemplified in the handling of the #EndSARS issue in Lagos State.

Let your Blood Jesus speak better, greater things and perfect peace for us in Nigeria.

Raise leaders Like king David, judges like Samuel that are after your own heart, O Lord.

Make us leaders chosen by You and let our leaders and followers be vessels to bring this land back to the fear of You, O Lord.

Create in us a clean and new heart and great love for one another.

Let any power thirsting for the blood of any Nigerian be quenched by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Father Lord help us to cancel violence in Jesus mighty name.

I declare your peace , love and understanding to reign over this land …

I decree peace that comes with justice, prosperity that comes with your peace and all material and spiritual blessings upon this land.

Revive our lands from those who trouble this land with wicked deeds.

Lord have mercy on us all ,especially those who defile our lands with idols, who shed innocent blood without a cause. Give them a new heart Lord so that they can know that what they are doing is bad and change from this wicked ways…

Let peace be upon Nigeria .Let perfect peace be upon the four corners of this land where you have planted us.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and savior I pray. Amen.

Lord take the crafty in their craftiness. Those who have plotted evil schemes to overrun Nigeria with contrary ways, let their wicked schemes backfire and they turn back to worship and serve you.Let their footsoldiers be arrested like Saul/Paul and let them become mighty believers and evangelists for your kingdom.
